A brand-new cinematic trailer for the open-world Harry Potter game Hogwarts Legacy gets the internet excited for a return of a beloved franchise in a scale never seen before.
Portkey Studios, the Harry Potter publishing division of WB Games, just dropped a massive bomb of an announcement. Hogwarts Legacy will take gamers back to J. K. Rowling’s Wizarding World in a massive open-world adventure on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. The game is being developed by Avalanche Software, the studio behind Disney Infinity. Look at the cinematic here:
The game will be set in the 1800s, long before the rise of you-know-who and the birth of Harry. This decision is brilliant, as the general aesthetics and feel of Hogwarts will be largely unchanged (let’s face it - the place is not exactly modern!), while the game will have the freedom to tell its own story and hopefully not mess up the original storyline in any way. Regrettably, this means that we won’t be meeting beloved characters like Snape, Dumbledore, or Madame Hooch (what do you mean she’s not beloved!?), but older Hogwarts residents such as Nearly Headless Nick or the Fat Lady have a really big chance of showing up!
Sadly, the cinematic doesn’t give away any gameplay. It focuses on setting the mood and showing cool things such as the Hogwarts dungeon, flying on broomsticks and hippogriffs, care for fantastic beasts, and fancy “self-driving” carriages (most likely driven by invisible thestrals). There is also a plethora of scary things like a troll let loose, and a mysterious masked villain.
The game is set for release in 2021, so you’ll have all the time in the world to re-read the books and re-watch the movies in preparation.
