The latest episode of The Simpsons marked the passing of a longtime supporting character, Larry the Barfly. Say goodbye to a fixture at Moe's Tavern who has been a silent witness to the antics of Homer and his friends for more than three decades.
Sad news in the Simpsons universe. In the latest episode of Fox's timeless sitcom, a longtime character met his demise - Larry the Barfly.
Farewell To A Familiar Face: Larry the Barfly
Larry, a regular alongside his companion Sam, is said to have reached the age of 42 (in the fictional realm), before they finally killed him off. While not necessarily a well-known name to casual viewers, Larry has been a constant presence at Moe's since the show's early days, making his debut in Season 1's Homer's Odyssey back in January 1990 - a staggering 34 years ago.
Because Larry was primarily a background character, little was known about him beyond his fondness for alcohol and his occasional mumbling.
The writers actually acknowledged in his episode how neglected Larry had been in the show.Larry’s mother revealed that he considered Homer and the gang his best friends. Which makes it even more tragic.
At least we were left with the song "Lonely Larry" to act as a kind of obituary:
In the recent Season 35 episode "Cremains of the Day," Larry met his demise, prompting Homer, Moe and other regulars like Lenny and Carl to undertake a journey to scatter his ashes.
Rest in Peace, Larry.
