At first, everyone was talking about the name change from FIFA to EA Sports FC, but soon no one cared anymore. But only one year later, we might already be seeing a quicker-than-expected return of the FIFA series. Find out what this could mean for EA!

2K Games Rumored As New FIFA Publisher

What EA is for EA Sports FC 24, 2K Games could soon be for FIFA 2K25. The US-based publisher is known for big sports titles like the NBA 2K series, WWE 2K series, and PGA Golf Tour 2K series.

Recently, rumors have been heating up about an agreement between 2K Games and FIFA. This deal is said to involve the licenses EA didn’t want to pay for, leading to the loss of naming rights.

The exact details of this license are unknown, but there’s a lot of speculation online. Nobody would care about a new FIFA game if it had made-up teams, fake logos, and imaginary stadiums.

It's also hard to imagine 2K creating a complete FIFA game in such a short time. We don't know when they started talking, but it couldn't have been before EA and FIFA ended their relationship.

What Does This Mean For EA?

If a new FIFA series emerges, EA would face a massive competitor. 2K is already experienced with sports video games and could produce something significant.

And yes, both games would continue to exist: EA FC and FIFA 2K25. The community would have to decide between even more options and weigh what's most important to them.

Even if the 2K version isn't great, it could still hurt EA's sales because many people would probably want to check out the new game.

On Reddit, many players say they'd buy the game with the better career mode. Others argue that most people only play modes like Ultimate Team anyway.

Both modes exist in some form in 2K games, and their manager modes have impressive features. However, they usually focus on fewer teams compared to EA’s football sim.

EA is surely not happy about this news. By turning down FIFA, they might have helped the American publisher secure a better deal with the football federation.

As a community, we’ll have to wait and see if 2K can deliver as FIFA’s new publisher and developer. Without official confirmation, we can't say for sure if the tweet is true.
