Since the launch of the PlayStation 5 (PS5), gamers have been eagerly awaiting customization features that allow them to personalize their PS5. One of the most requested features was the ability to set custom wallpapers, allowing gamers to add a touch of individuality to their consoles. After months of anticipation, Sony has finally responded, albeit in a somewhat unexpected way.

PS5 UI Home Screen Update – Wallpapers & Widgets

The latest UI update for PS5 allows signed-up beta testers to try out some new customization features. Along with a whole list of newly added functions and tools, it is finally (somewhat) possible to change the wallpaper in the main menu. Almost all new features revolve around the explore tab in the main menu.

The new Explore icon now features widgets that provide us with consumer-facing information, such as battery levels, console storage, and game captures. We can also choose from different presets, such as single player focused, team focused, and top suggestions.

Additionally, it is now finally possible to customize the wallpaper of the explore tab with preset wallpapers from PlayStation. However, users cannot currently use custom wallpapers from a USB drive. The custom background feature has been requested by users for a long time, and this is the first step into the right direction. Maybe, if everything runs smoothly for beta testing, the feature will get fleshed out more in the future and available for everyone else.

Content creator Mystic had the chance to try out these new beta features and made a video showcasing them. Here you will be able to see what the new UI now looks like.
