League of Legends Arena is live in LoL Patch 14.9. For the upcoming patch there will be some major changes with the devs monitoring the situation closely.
Arena is back on Summoner's Rift. With it going live in LoL Patch 14.9, players already flocked to the updated game mode to see what was different from before and how those differences felt. Now, with the mode being out for an entire patch, Riot knows where the biggest pain points are and will adjust them.
Lead Gameplay Designer, Matt "Phroxzon" Leung-Harrison, has revealed some of the bigger issues Riot will tackle in LoL Patch 14.10 regarding arena.
LoL Patch 14.10: Arena Patch Notes
RNG Experience Changes — Prismatic Anvils
Prismatic Anvils were added in this round of Arena to bring in some randomness to the game mode and ensure that every single game is a different and new experience. The introduction of them has brought in some form of unknown to every round of Arena, but it seems that it was a bit too random.
So now Riot is going to adjust the Anvils in the upcoming patch to ensure that the anvils will be a bit more in a player's favor than before. Phroxzon explained that the balance team wants "the ideal prismatic to hit the sweet spot of not being guaranteed, while not forcing [players] down AP Darius if [they] miss".
Jhin Adjustments
Riot is also going to be making some changes to Jhin who has been one of the most talked about champions since the release of Arena in LoL Patch 14.9. His missile speed and spawn location have been adjusted in the upcoming LoL Arena patch.
Riot is going to reduce the missile speed by 25% and the spawn location is also changed to be more fair for both teams competing.
Time Before Revive
The time to revive a player has also been adjusted. It was previously 11–8 seconds, but it has been elongated to 12–8 seconds in the upcoming patch. Right now, it's too easy to revive a teammate according to the stats, which is why Riot is making these specific changes.
Arena God Games Required
Arena also has some pretty unique Challenges where you can add the title to your League of Legends profile and banner. But it seems that the challenge Arena God was a bit too hard to obtain, so Riot is going to make the requirements an actual obtainable goal.
Players who have 60 first place finishes will be able to obtain the title and add it to their profile. Phroxzon even revealed that thus far, only 160 players have obtained more than 20 first place finishes so far. Since they want the Challenge to be something that players can actually get they've lowered the requirement of first place finishes to 60 from 168.
Ranked Reset For LoL Patch 14.10
The second League of Legends ranked split for Season 14 is going to kick off in LoL Pathc 14.10. This will also mark the beginning of the ranked Arena split. Players in higher elos will experience a soft reset from their previous rank in the other Arena modes. This is to ensure better matchmaking for new players.
There are also going to be a bunch of other balance changes to specific champions, augments and items. Riot will also automatically give teams hats in the later stages of the game, since teams are spending their money on juices and anvils instead of hats.
Riot will also be monitoring the Koi Pond map, though they will be adjusting it slightly with some new blast cone placements. For now they aren't going to remove the map from the pool yet though, since the team still wants to have some data on it.
