Cowboy Bebop Voice Actor Not On Board For Potential Spinoffs

Cowboy Bebop is one of the most well-known shows that has captured the hearts of many, but it seems that there will not be any spinoffs or other new content coming soon.

Cowboy Bebop is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and to celebrate the birthday of such an iconic series some fans thought that there could be some form of revival of the series. While there are celebrations in place, especially with a special edition KENTEX watch recently revealed (of which there are only going to be 26 worldwide), there will not be a spinoff of the original series.

This was even stated by none other than Koichi Yamadera, the voice of none other than Spike Spiegel. In a recent interview, he revealed that he would not be on board for more Cowboy Bebop work, but the reason is actually very understandable.

Cowboy Bebop Should Not Be Getting Spinoffs According To Voice Actor

To celebrate 25 years since the release of Cowboy Bebop, an interview was posted on the official Japanese website in which Koichi Yamadera revealed that there won't be any spinoffs of the series coming soon. It seemed like there had been some plans for spinoffs, especially after the release of the movie, which was set during the latter parts of the series.

Yamadera explained that it would not feel right to have any spinoffs or continue the series, due to the loss of two key members. In 2018, voice actor and the voice of Jet Black, Unsho Ishizuka, passed away and scriptwriter Keiko Nobumoto also passed away in 2021.

I do think there were several spin-off ideas — but I don’t think we should do that given the passing of Unsho Ishizuka and Keiko Nobumoto.

While Yamadera did wish there could be some spinoffs, comparing the potential return of Cowboy Bebop to that of bands that "break up" only to have big comebacks years later. Unfortunately, due to the loss of a key voice, as well as writer, it just doesn't feel right for Yamadera to keep going.

So fans will have to simply rewatch the original series (which, to be fair, is still fantastic).
