When fans went to see Godzilla x King: The New Empire, they were surprised by the new color palette of the giant monster. But there is a reason behind it, and one popular anime inspired this new look.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire just entered theaters, and viewers were pretty surprised to see a brand-new transformation for the iconic monster. He received a new color scheme that hadn't been seen before on the character and now it was revealed which character from a popular anime inspired this new look and power level.
In an "Ask Me Anything" on Twitter, lead character designer Jared Krichevsky revealed that the pink Godzilla was inspired by one of the most legendary anime of all-time: Dragon Ball.
Pink Godzilla Inspired By Dragon Ball
In a now deleted Tweet, Krichevsky revealed that the new Godzilla transformation comes from none other than Son Goku himself. The transformation of Godzilla is pink, which would suggest that Krichevsky took a liking to Goku Black's Super Saiyan Rosé form inDragon Ball Super. That is not the case, though, as explained in an IGN article.
I didn't see Goku Rosé until years later. But I did base the transformation off of Kaio-Ken.
So, it seems that Goku Rosé was not the actual inspiration for this new look, instead it was one of Goku's earliest transformations, the Kaio-Ken.
Krichevsky did explain the pink hue for Godzilla, stating that after the monster beat the Titan Tiamat he absorbed their DNA, which resulted in the new sparkling look. Unfortunately, this tweet has also since been deleted.
Director Adam Wingard also commented on the new color scheme in an interview, explaining that this was an important part of Godzilla's evolution as a monster and character. That's why the color change was so important to him. The fact that it's pink could just be his personal preference, with Wingard noting that it's his favorite color.
So, the color change to pink isn't just a random add-on, but it is a key symbol in the Godzilla story, which has been visually represented... similar to the Kaio-Ken it was based off of, right?
