While Dota 2 fans are still waiting for Immortal Treasure III it became clear that the Trove Carafe treasure won’t be part of the 2020 Dota 2 Battle Pass.
The Dota 2 2020 Battle Pass still has three weeks left but some of the content still remains unreleased – like the Windranger arcana, Immortal Treasure III, and the Trove Carafe. The latter is perhaps the most special treasure of each Battle Pass as in addition to the exclusive skins you can also support your favorite commentator/caster/host. As a bonus, you’ll also get a signature on the skin.
This year that won’t be the case as Trove Carafe won’t be seeing the light of day. The news came indirectly from Reddit where a Valve employee revealed that due to a heavy schedule the Trove Carafe was put aside:
The current pandemic situation has had an impact on our development capacity, so it is unlikely there will be a Trove treasure this year. We are hopeful that Windranger Arcana and Immortal 3 treasure will be coming within the next couple weeks or so, with Windranger coming out first.
It’s truly one of the more bizarre statements we’ve read as one would usually expect Valve to have the assets for the various treasures ready. We totally understand that the coronavirus pandemic has had its toll on a global scale, but we doubt visual artists had any trouble working from home. A rather poor excuse on Valve’s side and of course it’s the treasure that was supposed to support something else than the prize pool of The International 10. Perhaps that’s the reason?
The player base in Valve’s games has become awfully familiar with the company’s unprofessional manner when it comes to releasing things on time. It even gave birth to a meme/term called “Valve time”. If you’re not familiar with it, take a look and have a laugh.
Another worrying thing about the statement above is the fact that the two remaining items might not arrive on time. With three weeks remaining, we could actually see Valve do another extension to the end date of the 2020 Dota 2 Battle Pass. This year’s pass delivered some interesting exclusive skins, but it also had its letdowns. From late delivery to server issues to lower quality persona skins to straight-up losing players.
At the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Valve’s CS:GO and Dota 2 gained some players. In the case of CS:GO it was an absurd amount that broke the previous record for most active players. Dota 2 got a nice boost of almost 100,000 users and both games peaked in April. A few months later the numbers are definitely going back to what they used to be, and it won’t be too surprising to see Dota 2 dip below the 400k mark.
What do you think? Is Dota 2 losing players because of Valve’s inability to address the game’s issues and deliver content on time? Are people just on holiday? Share your opinion on our Facebook page!
