Yesterday we got a modern classic and a staple of the survival genre. Today we have another classic game in its style - the 2008 tower defense Defence Grid: The Awakening.
Today, it’s easy to take certain genres for granted - auto battles, MOBAs, and esports FPS dominate all platforms, and there are tons of tower defense games that you could play on your phone while sitting on the white throne. But this wasn’t always the case. The tower defense genre was originally just a part of the Warcraft modding community, but then it started to grow.
One of the games that contributed to the rise of this awesome style of game is none other than the Defense Grid series. The Awakening debuted back in 2008 and to this day remains a staple of the genre. Yeah, the graphics are a bit outdated, but they are bursting with grit and spirit - something that couldn’t be said for many cartoony mobile TDs. If you want to take a nice trip to the origins of modern gaming, this is not a bad choice given the price.
