There's a new member within the Nintendo family. The marriage between the videogame giant and Next Level Games has been arranged and will go through on March 1, 2021. The studio has been working with Nintendo for a long time, so this is the natural evolution of their relationship.

The deal came along as "a number of [Next Level Games] owner-directors recently determined that the time is right for them to sell their shares" and Nintendo apparently determined that the time is right to add to their stock.

Next Level Games have been working exclusively with Nintendo for the last seven years and have produced some of the more successful titles the company has produced in that period. The most notable example is the studio's most recent export - Luigi's Mansion 3, which garnered critical and commercial success after its launch in 2019.

Other titles created by Next Level Games under the Nintendo hat include Super Mario Strikers, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, and another Luigi's Mansion game - 2013's Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, Captain America: Super Soldier, Punch Out!, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, and the video game version of Ticket to Ride are other games the Vancouver-based studio has worked on.

Nintendo is acquiring 100% of Next Level Games' shares and barring any last-minute complications, the deal should be closed by March 1, 2021. The company added that not much is going to change in practice as the studio had already pretty much committed to Nintendo even before making it official.
