This is the best MP5 Loadout in Modern Warfare 2! Although MW2 is punishing to SMG-players, some will always love this role. And so for folks that like being on the frontlines, here's a complete loadout guide for the MP5. In our opinion, it's the best SMG in MW2.
Although we think very highly of the FSS Hurricane as a flex weapon, in terms of fulfilling a pure-SMG role, we think the MP5 is the best weapon in Modern Warfare 2, and we say as such in our tier-ranking of all SMGs in MW2. Now if you want to read more about the Hurricane check out the FSS Hurricane loadout guide. But in this article we're focused on putting together the best MP5 (called the Lachmann Sub in-game).
We're specifically going to be building the weapon and selecting perks for SnD / no-respawn modes, because this is where it really thrives. Unlike Domination or Team Deathmatch (where the meta seems to be: post up with an AR), in SnD you really need a couple of people on the team to run subs, so they can get the plant down or chall the site for a re-take. Anyway, let's get started with the attachments you want on the MP5.
Best MP5 (Lachmann Sub) Attachment Setup
Attachment Slot | Attachment Name | Unlock Level |
Muzzle | SA Schalldämpfer 99 | Lachman .556 Level 12 → Lachmann Sub Level 19 |
Barrel | FTAC M-Sub 12" | Lachman .556 Level 12 → Lachmann Sub Level 3 |
Optic | Cronen Mini Red Dot | M4 Level 13 → FTAC Recon Level 16 → FSS Hurricane Level 3 |
No Stock | No Stock | Lachman .556 Level 12 → Lachmann Sub Level 18 |
40-Round Mag | 40-Round Mag | Lachman .556 Level 12 → Lachmann Sub Level 15 |
We're following a similar attachment philosophy that we've been using the last few years for SMGs: increasing range is great where possible, don't sacrifice too much mobility, and don't worry too much about recoil. These attachments fulfill those criteria the best, although you might even want to drop the 40-round mag for the default version. However, the 40-rounder really doesn't hurt your mobility much at all, unlike the 50-rounder.
Note: This is a non-Overkill loadout,

Best MP5 (Lachmann Sub) Loadout: Perks & Equipment
Perks (Base, Bonus & Ultimate)
Here's our favorite perk choice for an SnD class like this:
Base Perks | Battle Hardened, Tracker |
Bonus Perk | Spotter |
Ultimate Perk | Ghost |
We've taken perks for intel. Tracker can reveal the footsteps of roamers, and hunting them down can quickly shift the tide of battle in SnD. While Spotter can be used to reveal any Claymore or Proximity Mines (and you should expect a ton of mines in SnD). For the Ultimate perk, Ghost is the natural choice, because without Ghost you'll be playing with a huge disadvantage in any round where the enemy pops a UAV (and UAVs are the only killstreak that reliably feature in this mode). And to round us out we chose Battle-Hardened, but E.O.D. would also work well as a secondary Base perk.
You can find a complete list of every perk in MW2 here, in case you want to see what else is on offer.
Equipment (Lethals, Tacticals & Field Upgrade)
Here are our favorite equipment choices for SnD:
Lethal | Deployable Camera |
Tactical | Smoke |
Field Upgrades | Portable UAV |
A lot of people will be discussing Last Stand as a clutch perk, and in pubs against low-skill opponents it certainly is. But if you find yourself in a competitive game there's a very, very small chance that the guy who downed you won't be able to finish. Whereas, the deployable CCTV camera can completely change how SnD is played. On defense, you can use it to hold down entrances to the site, and on offense you can use the cam above the bomb to deny a retake. So if you're getting punished by the SBMM, and you're playing a genuinely solid SnD team, then use the camera.
For a Tactical grenade we've chosen smokes. Smoke grenades are the obvious choice for SnD because the snipers in MW2 have strong aim-assist, and so there's almost always someone covering the cross. And for Lethal grenades we've taken Proximity Mines, which can be deployed on the bomb. Most players will see the mines and set them off, but this can be used to alert you when they're approaching the site.
We hope you'll enjoy the MP5, it's one of the best weapons in the game. But if you want to see which other weapons are available in Modern Warfare 2, we have a complete tier list of weapons here. Check out all the changes coming to Modern Warfare 2:
