The insanely popular video game Overwatch is getting an animated series while Diablo is up for an anime adaptation. The news, reported on Monday via GameSpot, was revealed through the LinkedIn profile of Nick van Dyk, president of Activision Blizzard Studios.
Do you enjoy watching the animated series on Netflix? and we're sure you enjoy gaming too. Well, Diablo and Overwatch could be joining your watch list somewhere shortly. Activision Blizzard President Nick van Dyk has recently updated his LinkedIn position description within Activision to pretty much confirm the existence of a Diablo anime in the works with the following description being added:
“Executive producer of Diablo, a TV adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment’s IP, rendered in anime style. The show is currently in pre-production for distribution worldwide throughout Netflix” - Nick van Dyk
This description continues as Nick also, very sneakily near the end, confirmed an animated Overwatch series is coming via a “creative partner”.
“With my creative partner, developed and sold an animated series based on Blizzard’s Overwatch franchise” - Nick van Dyk
Well, wow, this is pretty big gaming news for both Diablo and Overwatch. We can hopefully expect the Castlevania-like animated experience that graced our screens on Netflix, however, this “creative partner” has yet to be disclosed about who, exactly, will be creating and animating this Overwatch series.
It was also shown in Nick’s profile that they are working on a Call of Duty movie, however, that has recently been put on hold for the time being as director for the movie, Stefano Sollima said the project has “stood still” for a good number of years.
This announcement isn’t really new though, as it was highly speculated over the years that Overwatch should get something on those lines due to the spectacular animated trailers they produce.
