Overwatch can look daunting to a brand-new player but worry not! EarlyGame has you covered on the top 3 things you need to know before diving into your games!

Overwatch Tips & Tricks articles are everywhere and usually add between 10 or 8 things you must know. We're not like that, though. We're giving you just three, yes three, things that can help you in your Overwatch endeavors! With the overwhelming selection of playable characters and classes, it can create an intimidating atmosphere for all, so focus on these to begin with, and we're sure you can pick up a thing or three!

1. Try new Heroes in the Practice Range

We understand that running around with a bow flinging arrows into your enemies is fun and all, but one of the best things you can do is not be stuck to one particular hero within Overwatch. Experiment! And this is where the Practice Range comes into play. The Practice Range allows you to select any hero and give them a whirl! It's essential that you, as a player, learn a variety of heroes (preferably one from each class) because you'll be able to prioritize if your team is lacking a particular healer or damage dealer. Great easy recommendations for each class to master are as follows:

  • Mercy (Support)
  • Soldier 76 (Offense)
  • Reinhardt (Tank)
  • Bastion (Defense)

2. Do not stand still

As mentioned above, flinging arrows around as Hanzo is fun and all but getting hit by one of them in the face is not. Move! Don't stand still or you open yourself to being taken out by the snipers in Overwatch (looking at you, Widowmaker mains), so get those thumbsticks or WASD keys moving and keep yourself mobile. One rule of thumb for every character is that when engaging in fights, team or solo, become like jelly and bound around. This not only causes the enemy to potentially miss but also stops you from being cornered or trapped.

3. Communicate

It's so easy to be the strong, silent type in your game. Do not forget to tell your team what's going on as this is proven to save games. Communicate effectively and efficiently! It's no good pointing out to your team that there's an enemy Widowmaker in the distance after she's already wiped your entire team. Be on the lookout all the time for where the enemies could be, if they've used their ultimates, or have gone to a different position. This also goes for your abilities that can combine well with good team composition.

And that about does it for our top three things you need to know before jumping into Overwatch. Remember, the world needs more heroes like you.
