Pokémon Unite is a real-time, team-based strategy announced yesterday. Developed by Tencent’s TiMi Studios, Unite takes a heavy approach to League of Legends, and boy were Pokémon fans angry.

Pokémon fans around the world gathered on Pokémon's official YouTube channel yesterday for Pokémon Presents, an event held by Pokémon for the players! An exciting time you would think, as fans were expecting the highly anticipated generation 4 remakes or perhaps some more nostalgia with the recently announced New Pokémon Snap.

What fans got, however, was a Pokémon League of Legends MOBA. Fans were not happy. We have a roundup of our thoughts on the matter, as we covered a first impressions video about the announcement.

As of writing, the current live-streamed video on YouTube has 75K likes and 165K dislikes, a complete U-turn from lask weeks of video performance. Fans were quick to make immediate connections to popular MOBA game League of Legends as it looks very similar to Riot Games' old mode, Dominion, which was officially retired in early 2016. From game-play alone and how the game plays, it was easy to see this was a Pokémon version of LoL Wild Rift, which we have covered extensively.

When does Pokémon Unite come out?

Pokémon Unite does not have an official release date. However, if what we are seeing is the final build that was shown in the presentation, you could expect Pokémon Unite to arrive within the next few months.

This will, however, depend on how they want to roll out the free-to-try game, as an Alpha or Beta version might come before ensuring the servers are not overloaded, much like Wild Rift.

What can we expect from Pokémon Unite?

Well, you can expect a Pokémon League of Legends MOBA game to be in your hands on mobile, or Nintendo Switch soon. A full Pokémon roster has not been announced yet, so the biggest question going in the community, is will every Pokémon be present in Pokémon Unite? With 807 Pokemon this is a massive undertaking. League of Legends has a tiny 148 champions, however, Wild Rift, Riot Games upcoming mobile game, will have less than half of that within the game.

Well, what do you make of this? We're curious to know your thoughts about Pokémon entering esports potentially? With the way the game-play went, it seems this could be something Nintendo want to try as esports is booming and the market it big enough for Pokémon to find a way in.Should we do some patch notes like we do with League of Legends? The games look so similar, we still can't believe it ourselves.
