It’s that time of year again, and EA Sports has released the Premier League Team of the Season for 2019/20. While this version is slightly different given the English top flight is only 29 games through due to the coronavirus, EA Sports has named this year’s squad the very catchy “Team of the Season So Far” or TOTSSF for short.
Introducing 23 new, top Premier League cards
TOTSSF was revealed on Friday and is based on players’ performances in the Premier League during the 2019/20 season. In general, the squad is pretty impressive, with runaway leaders Liverpool providing seven of those players, although there are a few surprise omissions from the team.

Of the 23 players included, 20 are available in packs until Friday, May 8, while three cannot be bought on the Transfer Market.
They include a Squad Building Challenge for Wilfred Ndidi (91), while Ayoze Perez (89) and Raul Jimenez (91) are available through two separate Objectives.
The Community Team of the Season (CTOTSSF), which was unveiled the previous Friday, also included five Premier League players. With them, there are now 28 new cards on offer from England’s top division.
Who are the best TOSSF players?
The highlight of TOTSSF is a 99-rated Kevin De Bruyne but that is definitely not all. Along with it, we get a Virgil van Dijk card with the same ranking.
Sadio Mane (98), Mohamed Salah (97), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (96) and Sergio Aguero (96) all have their highest-rated cards of FIFA 20, meaning EA Sports has provided plenty to aim for over the coming weeks.

Who else is on offer?
Riyad Mahrez (95), Heung-min Son (95), Jamie Vardy (95), Marcus Rashford (94), Jordan Henderson (94) and Richarlison (93) offer significant improvements on their best cards to date and are likely to leave those with a Premier League XI licking their lips.
Meanwhile, Alisson (97), Trent Alexander-Arnold (95) and Andrew Robertson (94) are excellent cards but given that the trio has the same rating as their Team of the Year cards, they’re somewhat disappointing additions.

Any controversial choices?
In short: yes.
While the selection of midfielders and attackers is great across the 28 CTOTSSF and TOTSSF cards, the goalkeepers and defenders aren’t great.
Between the sticks and with no improvement on Alisson’s 97 rating, there’s nothing new for gamers to improve their team, while most committed players’ XIs won’t be improved by back-up choices Bernd Leno (88) and Dean Henderson (88).
At center-back, there are only three choices, while at left-back, the options are down to one – Robertson’s 94 card. As there are seven options for wingers and six for central attackers, perhaps including some extra defenders would have been a better selection.
Also, given that TOTSSF is based on players’ real-life performances in the Premier League, there are a few questionable additions in the 28: Richarlison, Wilfried Zaha (92), Jiminez, Adama Traore (89) and Leno, to name a few.
Premier League fans could question the inclusion of such players when the likes of Nick Pope, Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans, Jack O’Connell, Ben Chilwell, James Maddison, Jack Grealish, Roberto Firmino and Danny Ings all missed out.
Is the Premier League TOTSSF a hit?
Despite the above criticisms, the side announced on Friday is actually pretty decent. The squad being populated by Liverpool players is a true reflection of the season to date, while De Bruyne was another must-pick.
With 16, 93+ cards available, EA has certainly given gamers plenty of scope to improve their Premier League sides.
Also, while there is a lack of defenders and goalkeepers on offer, the midfield and attacking options are absolutely brilliant.
