The coronavirus has a firm grip on the world, and clubs and teams of various sports also feel this. But that is no reason to bury your head in the sand. That's also what the professional racing team Rutronik Racing thought, who are putting together an extraordinary charity sim racing event with #RaceForGood.
Stay at home and enjoy some of the finest racing? It's possible with the charity event #RaceForGood organized by the German FIA GT3 racing team Rutronik Racing. Sim racers and professional racers from all over the world are already burning their best lap times into the tarmac on a trial basis in order to make sure that they have a place in the semi-finals at the opening race next Saturday.
What is #RaceForGood?
With the effects of the coronavirus, some will surely get hung up. But you could also use the situation to do something good - that's the idea behind the event #RaceForGood of the German racing team Rutronik Racing.
The idea: Professional racers and sim racers compete in different disciplines of the racing simulation iRacing. They deliver the finest racing action to spectators while doing something good at the same time.
The proceeds of the event will be donated to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Children's sports projects that cannot be carried out due to the current corona crisis will be supported. Projects for socially disadvantaged children, some of whom even suffer from domestic violence.
Donations are already possible as of today's Monday, but there is also the possibility to donate money during the live broadcasts. In addition, all partners who support the event as sponsors will donate 80 percent of their sponsorship contribution to do good: sportsmen and women stick together.
Coordinator Fabian Plentz from Rutronik Racing reveals:
We want to use the current time and counter the many negative reports with something positive. With Laureus, we have a sponsor who organises many projects related to sport. With this event, we are primarily supporting children's sports projects for socially disadvantaged children. These projects are currently all on ice due to the corona crisis. We want to make a contribution so that the projects can be quickly resumed and continued after the crisis. We are especially pleased about the great participation of the professional racers. It's nice to see that motorsport is holding together in this difficult phase.
What can racing fans expect at #RaceForGood?
Racing pros against Sim-Racer, with this starting point the #RaceForGood Charity-Event lays the foundation for an extraordinary racing event. It is reminiscent of the legendary Race of Champions - the iconic invitation-only event where famous lap and rally racers have been fighting for victory since the end of the 1980s.
The starting signal will be given on Saturday, 04 April at 18:00 hrs. Then, in the first two heats, the drivers will get behind the wheel of the Mazda MX5 Cup in the racing simulation iRacing and fight for a place in the semi-finals in Daytona.
The semifinals will be held with the fat NASCAR trucks. Roaring V8 engines and exciting slipstream duels await the spectators at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
For the first time, the 15 best professional racers and sim racers will meet there to determine the winner on the sunny high-speed circuit in Monza, Italy. Drivers will be in a Porsche GT3 RSR.
Which pros will be there?
Racing fans and spectators of #RaceForGood can look forward to a unique, virtual racing event. Some of the best Sim-racers will take part, but also the starting field of the racing professionals promises a lot.
Among others, the reigning DTM Champion René Rast from Audi Sport Team Rosberg will fight for victory. Other big names include the Portuguese Formula E driver António Félix da Costa and his compatriot Tiago Monteiro - Formula 1 fans still know him from his time with Jordan and Midland and Sypker in 2005 and 2006 respectively.
Also confirmed are former DTM driver Filipe Albuquerque as well as Let's Player and hobby racer Felix von der Laden, perhaps better known to many under his nickname Dner.
About the organizer: Rutronik Racing
The #RaceForGood charity event is organized by the fairly young German racing team Rutronik Racing, which is also involved in Sim-Racing since 2019.
Today, the team, based in Remchingen, Baden-Württemberg, is one of the largest customer sport teams of Audi Sport Customer Racing worldwide and supports a total of 10 GT3 cars of the Audi brand in two championships.
In 2019, the team ventured into the ADAC GT Masters Series, where they celebrated the championship with their two drivers - Patric Niederhauser and Kelvin van der Linde.
