This weekend we start the engines! On Saturday, April 4, 2020, the German racing team Rutronik Racing invites you to a unique charity event in Sim-Racing under the #RaceForGood banner. A total of 50 drivers – Sim-Racers and professional racers, will try to bring in as much in donations as possible through iRacing. Let us introduce you to the 5 most well-known pros that will take part!
What is #RaceForGood about?
The coronavirus crisis is no reason to bury your head in the sand. The German ADAC GT Masters racing team Rutronik Racing are showing that through a unique charity event in Sim-Racing. A total of 50 drivers have answered the call of the racing team. They will be competing against each other on April 4 in various disciplines of the racing simulation iRacing.
At the same time spectators of #RaceForGood have the opportunity to donate money for a good cause. The proceeds of the event will be donated to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. The foundation supports Children's sport projects that cannot be carried out due to the coronavirus restrictions.
Where can I donate?
Donations are already open. Anyone wishing to support the disadvantaged children can do so directly via the Laureus website or find the information required for a bank transfer there. Use "Raceforgood" as subject to make sure the donation can be assigned to the event and that it will reach the right destination.
The 5 most famous professional racers in #RaceForGood
A total of 25 pros will compete on Saturday. They include some big names from the world of motorsport, including DTM champions, former Formula 1 drivers and the reigning ADAC GT Masters winner. Here's a small portion of the popular names that will support the event.
René Rast
Rast began his motorsport career, like many professionals, in karting. In 2005, he switched to touring car racing and in 2006 he secured second place in the German SEAT León Supercopa before turning his attention to the Porsche Supercup, which he won three times in a row between 2010 and 2012.
Since 2017 René Rast has been racing for Audi in the most famous German touring car series, the DTM, and secured the championship title for Audi Sport Team Rosberg in 2017. He won the title again in 2019 and is the reigning champion. Since Rast also has experience in Sim-racing, he is one of the favorites for the charity event.
Tiago Monteiro
The Portuguese Tiago Vagaroso da Costa Monteiro was last active for Honda in the WTCC World Touring Car Championship. In 2019, together with his colleagues for the Honda factory team, he secured the TCR class victory in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring.
But Monteiro is probably best known to motorsport fans from his time in the premier class. In 2005 and 2006, the Portuguese raced in Formula 1 and even won third place in a debut season for the Jordan team at the 2005 US Grand Prix in Indianapolis, which was also the first podium finish for a Portuguese in Formula 1.
Nico Müller
Nico Müller found his way via karting and formula racing to the DTM, where he has been active for Audi for six years now. As early as 2016, in his third season, the Swiss driver clinched a podium finish at Hockenheim and won the race at the Norisring.
In the following years, Müller secured further podium places before he really got going in the 2019 season and, with a total of three victories and eight additional podium finishes, secured second place in the overall standings - behind René Rast. So, #RaceForGood will see another duel between the two Audi drivers.
Marius Zug
German Marius Zug is one of the best up-and-coming talents in German motorsport and was able to win second place in the South German ADAC Kart Cup in his debut year. In 2017, he won the junior class of the ADAC Kart Masters, the largest kart racing series in Germany.
In 2019, he made the leap into GT4 racing, which took place in Germany for the first time and in which he once again proved his talent. In the debut season, he secured first place in the junior classification and the vice championship in the overall standings.
Yet the man from Pfaffenhofen only got his driving license on March 5, 2020 - unbelievable. Sim-racing has always been one of his hobbies, which he pursues together with his younger sister Lilly.
Felix von der Laden
Felix is a gaming fan among professionals. Known by the nickname Dner, he has been featured in various Let's Plays and videos since 2013. With almost 3.2 million subscribers, his main channel is currently among the top 30 most subscribed one on YouTube in Germany.
Since 2017, von der Laden has also been involved in motorsport. In 2020, he will compete in the DTM junior series DTM Trophy. Due to his experience in Sim-racing Felix belongs to the favorites of the #RaceForGood charity event.
