Razer BlackShark V2 Review: Perfect Fit
For the BlackShark V2, Razer is again using breathable memory foam to ensure the perfect fit, even after several hours and fiery Esports matches. And you know what? The headsets wearing comfort is even better than its predecessors.
That comes from the low weight of the Razer BlackShark V2. Only 262 grams for a gaming headset are impressive – competitors like the Logitech G Pro X (320 grams) or the SteelSeries Arctis 7 (353 grams) are much heavier.
Thanks to its compact design, the headset is a perfect fit for travelling – the next LAN event can come. Well… after COVID-19 at least.
Excellent Build Quality
The BlackShark V2 offers excellent build quality. On the left you can find a detachable microphone arm with a pop filter made out of foam. You can turn the headset into a headphone immediately.
Especially great is the volume wheel that snaps in the middle. We can play a round of Valorant or League of Legends and adjust volume mid-round without taking our eyes off the screen. The BlackShark V2’s design is pretty indigenous – no lighting, no noticeable elements. Just the plain black and green design you would expect from Razer. We love that!
Good Sound Quality with THX Spatial Audio
The Razer BlackShark V2 can be connected either by 3.5-mm-jack or USB. To gain access to the impressive THX Spatial Audio, you need to connect the headset using USB and that’s where the headset really shines.
At default settings, the sound quality is okay, but nothing special. This changes, once you connect the BlackShark V2 to your PC and start the Razer Synapse software where you can adjust every piece of the sound.
You can activate THX Spatial Audio offering virtual 7.1 surround sound, use different equalizer presets, add a bass and microphone boost and tune the audio to your preferences. Playing around with Razers universal software weapon is worth it because the BlackShark V2’s sound quality is really convincing.
Thankfully, the sound isn’t too bass-heavy like many Razer headsets in the past. Explosions may not sound as powerful as you’re used to, but the heights and mids – that are important for Esports – are much clearer this time around. Hearing the enemies footsteps or the perfect time to shift up a gear on your favorite racing game is no problem anymore and thanks to the great 7.1 surround sound, you can also here what is going on around you.

Communication is Clear
Equally important for Esports is a clear voice rendition and that’s where the cardioid microphone comes into play offering clear communication.
The headset is using the brand new Razer HyperClear technology which isn’t only a marketing term, though. It offers a convincing microphone for a headset at this price range, covering the whole frequency band from 100 Hz to 10 kHz. By comparison, we liked the Logitech G Pro X a bit more, though.
Razer BlackShark V2 Verdict
Bingo! The Razer BlackShark V2 is a convincing and well-rounded gaming headset for competitive use that shines especially when it comes to wearing comfort. The combination of both light-weight build and an excellent build quality is great.
THX Spatial Audio and microphone quality are among the best you can get from a gaming headset at the price range. You want more? Only if you pay double the price of the BlackShark V2. The new Razer headset ascends the throne next to the Logitech G Pro X in the mid-price-range and is absolutely worth your money.
