Real-life football is not the only place where RB Leipzig are losing key players. Following in the footsteps of Timo Werner, professional FIFA player Cihan Yasarlar announced his official departure from RB Leipzig Esports.
Cihan’s departure does not take anyone who’s followed the situation by surprise as it has been coming for a long time now. Back in April it was all but confirmed that the player and the club will be splitting following the former’s contract expiry, which happened today, June 30.

Much more unexpected is the departure of another player – Alexander "Alex Czapi" Czaplok who is also leaving on a free transfer. Unlike Cihan though, his status with the organization was kept undisclosed until now. All in all, RB Leipzig are losing a lot of firepower on the real and on the virtual pitch.
Danke, @CYasarlar!Danke, @ACzapi! Wir danken euch fur die tolle Zusammenarbeit und die gemeinsamen Schritte, die wir im Bereich #Gaming gehen konnten. https://t.co/148wZYjX76 pic.twitter.com/w8BGwB8E4g

Cihan leaves RB Leipzig
In 2017, Cihan moved from FC Schalke 04 to the newly founded Esports department of RasenBallesport Leipzig. In April 2018 he won the ESL Spring Cup for the second time, first with RB. There won’t be a second one, however. After three years of service, Cihan announced it officially – his journey with RB Leipzig is over:
"I would like to thank you all for your support over the past years. Whether it was in the stadium or out on the street, your affection was always very warm. I'd also like to thank the club for the successful and wonderful time we had together.”
In an extensive live stream, Cihan elaborated on his motives on his Twitch channel. RB Leipzig is planning a strategic shift in their esports department which don’t seem to involve the player.
Joining Cihan on the train of departure is Alex Czapi. He just played in the VBL Grand Final last week, which makes this announcement much more surprising than the Cihan one, but apparently he’s also not part of Leipzig’s future plans. More clarity on those plans are expected before the release of FIFA 21 this October.
