The 12-inch Ring Light by PEYOU in Review: First Impressions and Packaging
Upon unpacking the ring light, I immediately noticed the solid packaging. Both the ring light and the tripod were sent in separate packages but securely attached to each other, ensuring that none of the packages could get lost during delivery. The instruction manual was easy to understand, illustrated with pictures, making assembly trouble-free.
Ring Light with a Tripod in Practical Test
The initial impression of the ring light itself was surprisingly positive. The various brightness and color temperature levels from warm to neutral to cool can be adjusted in brightness and intensity via an integrated and Bluetooth remote control.
The two included tripods come in different size categories. There's a mini tripod without extension and an extra-long 60-inch or 72-inch tripod. This allows the ring light to be positioned and angled in various positions. The material of the two different tripods seem very sturdy.
When it comes to lighting, that's where the rubber meets the road because it quickly becomes clear whether the purchase was worthwhile or not. For classic photos, selfies, or video recordings for YouTube or TikTok, the ring light impressed me the most. A single light source is sufficient here to get beautiful close-up shots.
But for live-streaming it's a little bit different. Because it's generally recommended to be illuminated from two different angles. This is no different with the 12-inch ring light. Fundamentally, one ring light could suffice, but for nearly perfect illumination, investing in a second ring light is necessary.
Aside from that, there's the option to attach smartphones or cameras to the ring light. However, the more weight you put on the ring light, the less flexible the light can be adjusted, as the screws for locking the light can only carry a few kilograms. Cameras with lenses may therefore not be attached very well.
Price-Performance Ratio
Considering its performance and versatility, the 12-inch ring light for 24 bucks offer a really good price-performance ratio and is one of the cheaper options available on the market, yet still well-made.
Verdict
Overall, the 12-inch ring light leaves a positive impression . Its versatile functions, robust design, and affordable price makes it a good alternative. Whether for video conferences, photo shoots, or videos, it exceeded my expectations.
But alongside the positive aspects, the ring light also has its weaknesses. For those who value perfection and live streams, it's necessary to invest in another ring light. Furthermore, the ring light would have benefited from a higher weight capacity for the smartphone and camera. However, this does not diminish the price-performance ratio in any way.
✅Hence, I recommend the purchase!
