Rumors are flying around regarding whether or not Rocket League is dying, and perhaps, about to be replaced with a Rocket League 2. Is Rocket League dying? Is Rocket League 2 real? Let's find out!
Rocket League is, let's face it, a pretty bloody old game at this point. It has just celebrated its sixth anniversary, for crying out loud, so don't go nibbling my ears off for suggesting that perhaps Psyonix wants to move on. Seriously. My ear's not that tasty, quit it! Anyway, is Rocket League dying? It might sound like a strange question, but those numbers ain't looking good for Psyonix, and Epic Games clearly wants bang for their buck. Could this perhaps mean a Rocket League 2? Or perhaps something else?
Rocket League Season 4 is here and has been for a while. It's a whole lot better than Season 3, that's for sure, but is Rocket League dying? Is Rocket League 2 coming? Since this article was originally written, some more news has emerged. Here's the latest!

Is Rocket League Dying?
Rocket League is not dead, but it might be dying. Rocket League's active player numbers have dropped significantly across basically every platform, spiraling downwards over the last few months. Additionally, online viewership is down significantly, with YouTubers and other content creators struggling to keep making successful content. Understandably, when Rocket League became free-to-play in 2020, not only did online viewership skyrocket, but so did the number of active players. Now that this boom is over, things aren't looking great.
Here's the crux of it: since the end of RLCS X, and the end of the hype that went along with it, Rocket League viewership has gone down by half. Half. It's not so surprising, the hype has died down, Season 3 sucked more than tomato soup, and Psyonix has barely added anything except for new vehicles and decals in Season 4 so far... Is Rocket League 2 Real?
We cannot guarantee that Rocket League 2 is real, but it could explain Psyonix's mal-treatment of Rocket League over the last year or so. Seriously – an entire bloody development studio working on skins for cars? Sorry, but we call bull(poo). That's insane. They have to be doing something, right? Epic Games just bought them, so surely they will be working on something. Possibly something big. Possibly Rocket League 2. Will it be Rocket League 2?
One particular thing to note is that we have confirmation from Psyonix, via a job posting, that Rocket League will be making the shift to Unreal Engine 5. This could explain the relative low-output of Psyonix's recent months. They also confirmed that they are working on a Rocket League related project, and we're not sure what this is. Could this be Rocket League 2? Quite possibly! The introduction of Unreal Engine 5 would be a significant improvement to Rocket League, but what does it mean for the future of Rocket League, and Rocket League 2? Well, we'll just have to see.
