A valiant effort by Schalke’s veteran top laner Andrei "Odoamne" Pascu was not enough to hold Rogue at bay as the team racked yet another LEC win. Are Rogue and MAD Lions the two best teams in the LEC this season?
After entering the mid-season break with a win against Fnatic, FC Schalke 04 found themselves facing another powerhouse team in Rogue, who somewhat unexpectedly emerged as a joint first-place team after the first half of the LEC 2020 Summer Split.
From nearly the start, the favorites stamped their mark on the game as Kacper "Inspired" Słoma took an early first blood in the mid lane, then was instrumental in two more kills just six minutes in. Schalke’s only hope lay in the top lane, where Odoamne’s Urgot had a big gold and pressure lead. The gold was virtually even at the 15-minute mark, but soon after, Schalke made a big mistake overcommitting to chase kills only to lose two. Instead, this gave Rogue the chance to assert control and slowly grow their lead.
The Romanian veteran nearly turned the game around for Schalke 25 minutes in with a great flank. That disrupted the Rogue engage and gave his team two kills, but Rogue’s superior teamfighting during their retreat salvaged the fight, turning it into a 3-3.
Four minutes later, the German team felt they had to contest the mountain soul, but they were too late – and while their engage killed the Rogue support, a great Oriana shockwave let Rogue get four kills back and resulted in a free Baron. Now back in control and with two strong buffs, Rogue broke through the Schalke defense to end the game. With this, Rogue remain on top of the scoreboard with a 8-2 record, leaving their opponents with the unenviable 1-9 and dead last.
