Mathew Perry, Reportedly Dead at 54
The reports of Perry's death started on October 28, when TMZ and the Los Angeles Times first reported that the actor had been found dead in his L.A. home. Apparently the 54-year-old had just returned after playing some pickleball, asking his assistant to run and errand for him, and once she returned was unresponsive.
The assistant had allegedly found Perry in his hot tub, which is why many outlets are reporting his death as a case of apparent drowning, although there is no official statement as of now. The cause of death has not yet been revealed, but as the L.A. Times reports, no foul play is suspected and there were no drugs at the scene.
Who was Mathew Perry?
Matthew Perry was born August 19, 1969 in Williamstown, Massachusetts and moved to L.A. at the age of 15 to pursue his goal of becoming an actor. Although he already stood in front of the camera before, his big breakthrough happened with the immensely popular NBC-sitcom Friends.
There he played the witty and sarcastic Chandler Bing, which brought him widespread recognition and established his career in the entertainment industry. Perry used this to work on various projects beyond “Friends”, but to this day, is best known for his performance in the iconic sitcom.
It was not all rainbows and sunshine, though, as the actor was battling a severe alcohol addiction, while filming Friends. Perry had been to rehab 15 times, but allegedly managed to stay sober in the end, which makes his death at the young age of 54 all the more tragic.
