Star City Games, one of the biggest Magic: The Gathering content providers, tournament organizers, and online stores throwing a very special celebrity prerelease party for the game’s latest thematic set - Ikoria, Lair of Behemoths.
Star City Games hardly needs an introduction to Magic fans - they’ve been around forever, organizing tournaments and selling crazy amounts of cards online. Now that the global virus outbreak is causing Ikoria, Lair of Behemoths’ prerelease tournaments to be seriously delayed and stores around the globe closing doors for months on end, the digital division of Star City Games is doing something special for the fans.
The event is scheduled for May 9 at 12 p.m. ET (9 p.m. PT) and will be - unsurprisingly - streamed live over the Star City Games Twitch channel.
The 8 contestants are fan-favorite content creators and Wizards of the Coast staff. The group will be meeting digitally to open up packs, discuss Ikoria, and of course, get some games going.
The “starring” cast includes Star City Games’ own Jeremy Noell, Justin Parnell, Steven Green, and Jonathan Suarez of Commander fame, content creator and Magic esports commentator Emma Handy, prominent community cosplayer Olivia Gobert-Hicks, and Wizard of the Coast staff Blake Rasmussen and Gavin Verhey.
The selection of pros who play Magic a lot, the people involved with the making of the cards themselves, and artistic content creators provide a very diverse cast representing more or less all aspects of Magic, which is awesome.
While the official Star City Games announcement article is vague in terms of tournament rules, we can expect a relaxed and casual pre-show and discussion, followed by a traditional Sealed even in which all players will crack open 6 packs and build the best deck they can out of their contents.
