League of Legends joined the mobile market by releasing Teamfight Tactics, Riot's new auto-battler game stuffed with strategy, uncertainty and... A very tedious tutorial. While old players will chuckle at how tiny their beloved character is, fresh players are left in the dust, wondering how to play. So, let's fix that with some much-needed tips and tricks for Teamfight Tactics.
What is Teamfight Tactics?
For new players, it's best to explain the basics first and foremost. Teamfight Tactics is an 8-player brawler game mode where the last surviving player wins the match. Every player has their own game board where they'll battle other players with their teams of champions that they assemble during the game.
The champions will automatically attack neutral minions and enemy champions in rounds of combat. Imagine chess but with much more strategy. The concept actually came from the Dota Auto Chess mod.
Combat is Critical!
Combat is the name of the game and it is critical that you place your champions correctly before it begins! Do not place your high-damage dealer right at the front of the team. Instead, consider placing them far at the back, behind some supports and healers to get maximum damage during the rounds.
Important note for new players: Once you have arranged your champions, you cannot change their position until the very end of the round, so get a strategy going and as an essential tip, do not keep your champions in the same place twice!
Get Those Rare Cards!
As Thanos once said: "Perfectly balanced, as all things should be" but that is far from the case here. Some cards in TFT are just greater than others and are indicated as such. So, consider selling any cards back to compensate for that rarity!
Rares will usually have a lot more damage and powerful abilities that can change the entire flow of a fight. Before buying, be sure to look at the card and read its explanation.
Itemize!
Items are extremely important as they play a key role in making your champion stronger, faster and healthier during the combat phase. Items dropped are indicated with a blue orb on the map, so be sure to tap on the location to pick them up! Use the correct items for a certain champion! For example, any items that deal tons of damage you should consider giving to your damage-dealing champion.
Important note: Items can be used during the round if your champion is alive during the combat phase.
Spend Your Money!
To all those wanting to save cash for something epic, we suggest you don't. Teamfight Tactics is an ever-evolving game and you need to spend the in-game currency to keep up with the other players if you want to win.
If this is something you struggle with in the later stages of the game, consider what you actually need to spend money on before going completely broke.
