The first Magic: The Gathering Arena tournament offering monetary rewards to players at home is about to start this weekend. You no longer need to be a pro to win some cash playing MTGA.

The new event is something of an esports-at-home experience - a fresh concept for MTGA. The competition is dubbed Arena Open and its first edition is scheduled for May 30-31. Players who do well during Day 1 will qualify for Day 2 where the stakes get really high. The formats go as follows:

Day 1

It all starts on May 30, 2020 at 8 a.m. PT and the sign-up period ends May 31, 2020 at 4 a.m. PT. Players will clash in Best-of-One Standard Constructed matches. An entry fee of 20,000 Gold or 4,000 Gems will buy you as many entrances as you want. You win by scoring 7 wins and lose by losing 3 times.

Rewards look like this:

  • 7 Wins: 2,000 Gems, Qualification for Day 2
  • 6 Wins: 1,600 Gems
  • 5 Wins: 1,200 Gems
  • 4 Wins: 800 Gems
  • 3 Wins: 400 Gems
  • 0–2 Wins: No Reward
  • Entry Fee: 20,000 Gold or 4,000 Gems

In addition, everyone who logs in will unlock the special Godzilla lands to add to their collection.

Day 2

Starting May 31, 2020 at 8 a.m. PT with sign-ins ending at 10 a.m. PT, it follows the same rules as Day 1 with one major exception - you only get one run. If you’re knocked out, the event is over for you. This tournament has no price of entry but obviously requires qualification.

However, the prizes are really sweet. They look like this:

  • 7 Wins: $2,000
  • 6 Wins: $1,000
  • 5 Wins: 20,000 Gems
  • 4 Wins: 10,000 Gems
  • 3 Wins: 6,000 Gems
  • 2 Wins: 4,000 Gems
  • 1 Win: 2,000 Gems
  • 0 Wins: No Reward

That’s some serious cash! Should you decide to give it a chance, we wish you the best of luck. Though taking a look at some top decks won’t hurt either! Luckily, EarlyGame’s got you covered!
