The prize pool of the Dota 2 International 10 is getting ahead of schedule as it already surpassed the $27 million mark. GabeN should be proud.
The Dota 2 Battle Pass this year has been doing an amazing job so far. In fact, it’s the best-performing Battle Pass ever. The prize pool for The International 10 (which is fueled by 25% of all Pass-related sales) has surpassed the $25 million mark and currently sits over $27 million. Ironically the date of the biggest Dota 2 event still remains a mystery as Valve have postponed it. The company has yet to announce when TI 10 will happen. Will it be this year or in 2021?
Back to the Battle Pass. So why are people buying like crazy when even the event is still nowhere near in sight. It’s simple – hats. People playing Valve games like hats or as people more often call them, skins. This year’s pass has a lot of exclusives, which makes it impossible for die-hard fans of the game to miss them. With three arcanas and two personas, the 2020 Dota 2 Battle Pass offers a lot.

Valve themselves are also playing their cards right to increase the hype for the event and make some good money while doing so. The company made a special weekend sale, which allowed players to save up to 75% on levels and treasures. Limiting the purchase to two per user, the Battle Level Bundle was only available for three days before Valve extended it further due to player demand. When your game is so loved by the player base that people are literally asking you to take their money.

The first leap in the graph is the result of the bundle, which came to an end on July 2. Shortly afterward, Valve revealed their next weapon – The Collector’s Cache 2020. A special treasure which contains 18 skins, made by community artists and chosen by the community with a vote. The skins won’t be available again and this is the only chance to get them. Furthermore, the contents of the treasure are not tradeable or marketable and you can only gift them once. One final detail, the only way to obtain a Collector’s Cache 2020 is to buy it directly from the market, as you won’t find it as a reward from the Battle Pass. This leads us to the second leap in the graph above. Thanks to it, the prize pool of The International 10 is already hitting what the previous one achieved 30 days later.

Valve are really setting the bar high for themselves. Treasure II and Treasure III from the Battle Pass are yet to be released and there’s going to be at least one more level bundle sale in the upcoming months. The end date of the Battle Pass is September 19 so there are still over two months remaining. With all that time, we’re sure that last year’s record of $34,330,068 will be broken and it might be by a lot.
