If you read through Part 1 of the story of Topias Miikka “Topson” Taavitsainen, you have learned some interesting facts about his personal life. This time, however, we will take a closer look at his professional career in Dota 2, so do not miss out!
How did Topson’s career got kick-started?
In the beginning, Topson himself did not expect his career to reach the heights it did. Even though he tried hard to go pro, not a single Dota 2 team wanted to sign him. That's when he turned to streaming and put up some insane follower numbers.
Luckily for him, it was during that time that both Gustav “s4” Magnusson and Tal “Fly” Aizik decided to leave OG. This was not expected and OG’s captain Johan “N0tail” Sundstein had no other option but to turn to Topias as a last-ditch option.
It did not take the Finnish player long to get used to the OG and their playstyle. Let’s put things in perspective for you: OG picked up Topson 3 months before The International 2018. He was a Dota 2 player that had never played for a professional team, nor had he ever competed on the big stage.
First major trophy – The International 2018
After a hard battle with its newly-formed roster, OG sealed the last remaining European ticket for the TI 2018.
Truth be told, we are never going to forget Topson's base defense against PSG.LGD. Everyone thought that this was going to be another GG, but the Finn had something to say about it.
The International 2019 – against all odds once again
After a dominating showing during TI 8, everyone was talking about how this was a fluke and that there was no way Topson would win another TI. However, the Finnish mid-laner once again proved everyone wrong.
The Group stage was super easy for Topson and his crew: they only dropped two maps. Once again, people started believing that the OG prodigy knew what was up.
Even though all of the matches played in the playoffs were quite close, OG got the better of Evil Geniuses (once again), Newbee, PSG.LGD on Team Liquid. As you can see, these are all top-tier teams and none of them managed to defeat Topson and co.
By winning his second TI in a row, the Finnish pro will definitely go down as one of the best Dota 2 players in the world. On top of that, the entire OG is now topping the charts when it comes to esports earnings as they split over $15,000,000 in prize money from the last TI.
To be honest, it really seems like Topson is a one-trick pony who is only performing when it matters, at The International. OG were unable to lift a single trophy in 2018 and 2019 except the Aegis. Even though Topias stated several times that his Dota 2 days might be over, we still believe that he has at least one TI in front of himself, so we can once again enjoy his insane plays.
