DOTA Summit 12 came to a timely end this Friday 13 as Fnatic were crowned champions at the event.

Beyond the Summit’s latest edition of DOTA Summit 12 provided a much-needed atmosphere of comfiness and half a week full of competitive Dota 2. The top three teams at the event were Fnatic, OG.Seed and Evil Geniuses.

Last time we checked Fnatic were already ahead, waiting for their next opponent in the grand finals. This meant that EG and OG.Seed had to battle it out in the lower bracket finals. While the North American organization was probably the favorite to win DOTA Summit 12, things rapidly changed throughout the tournament. The blue team had an underwhelming performance in the group stage as their only two victories came against Cloud9 and Thunder Predator. In the meantime OG.Seed who were an overrated underdog at best climbed their way up the ladder and earned their spot against the best teams in the event. The clash between the two started with a decisive victory for EG in the first game. Little did we know that a reverse sweep was on its way. OG.Seed took the following two matches and secured a spot in the grand finals, while EG were left in third place.

Fnatic were already looking like the best team at DOTA Summit 12 and in the grand finals they confirmed that. Despite the format being a Bo5 for the final battle, it took the SEA squad only 3 games to wrap it up, leaving OG.Seed no spark of hope. We also saw the shortest game of the tournament in the first match as it lasted only 17 minutes. That’s not only record-breaking for the event, but perhaps one of the quickest games we’ve seen in a long time. The winners took $60,000 in prize money for their first placement.

Fnatic had an excellent run throughout Summit 12 and their next big tournament would’ve already been going in full swing if it wasn’t for the coronavirus. The ESL One Los Angeles Major was canceled due to travel restrictions from the US and for it’s unclear whether it’ll come back at all. The SEA organization had the pleasure of winning one of what was probably one of the last LAN events we’ll see in the months to follow.

DOTA Summit 12 was everything we expected and more as the LAN provided equal measures of fun and high-level Dota 2.
