With Theros Beyond Death online and playable, it is time for us to embark on an epic journey across the new Mastery system. Here's how it works.
Every time a player completes a quest or wins a certain number of games, they will be rewarded with XP. These points unlock Levels that bring different rewards. Free to play players will get significantly fewer rewards, while those who purchase Mastery Pass will get a cool bonus every level (a grand total of 90) + an owl in-game pet.
Listed below is the full list of rewards spread across the Mastery Tree.
Free:
- 39 Theros Beyond Death booster packs
- 5 Theros Mastery Orbs (each can be redeemed for card styles on the Theros Mastery Tree).
Theros Beyond Death Mastery Pass owners:
- Elspeth Avatar, Elspeth's Nightmare Sleeve, Common Nyx Owl
- 20 booster packs (x4 GRN, x5 RNA, x4 WAR, x4 M20, x4 ELD)
- 1,800 Gems
- 4,000 Gold
- 1 Rank Draft Token (can be redeemed for entry into one Ranked Draft)

- Level 91 and Beyond: Uncommon ICR (1:20 Upgrade Rate)
Wizards of the Coast also offer two whole Pre-order packs with exclusive stuff. These are the Elspeth (Good) and Ashiok (Evil) packs. This is what they offer:
The Elspeth Play Bundle

- 10x Levels for your Mastery Pass
- 2x Theros: Beyond Death Sealed Draft Tokens
- 1x Elspeth, Sun's Nemesis Card
- Elspeth, Sun's Nemesis Card Style

The Ashiok Pack Bundle
- 50x Theros: Beyond Death Booster Packs
- 1x Ashiok, Nightmare Muse Card
- Ashiok, Nightmare Muse Card Style
- Ashiok Basic Sleeve
Both are at the €49.99/$49.99 price point. If it's worth it would depend on each player's needs - the Good one offers tons of gameplay with the Draft Tokens and all the Mastery rewards, while the Evil bundle comes with fresh cosmetics.
Speaking of cosmetics, there is a special offer for players who pull the trigger and shill $100 for both bundles - it's an in-game pet of the Cerberus-looking three-headed hound Kunoros. Is this worth it? For some – definitely. For others, it's too much. Good thing is pets are entirely cosmetic and optional!
