Three alternatives to the popular Warzone guns

You gotta be alternative, man. It's the trend! (Image credit: Activision)

When you take a look at most loadouts in Call of Duty: Warzone, you’ll likely notice a trend – it’s all the same rifles over and over again. We at EarlyGame are fans of variety, however, and we’ll try to offer some valid alternatives to the most popular guns within this article.

It is no secret that the Grau 5.56 is the best and most used rifle in Warzone, managing to overthrow the fan-favorite M4A1. The MP5 and MP7 combo is also immensely popular among players, but we said we’re aiming for variety here, so we’ll go a lot more obscure than that for our suggestions. See what we mean?

Three alternatives to the top guns

Today is all about the neglected weapons, those you won’t see in most loadouts. Granted, there’s a reason for that – the Grau and the M4 are just better.

Still, it's fun to try something different for a change, so we've prepared three alternative primary weapons with Warzone setups for you.

CR-56 AMAX

Let's start with one of the newest weapons that came into play with the recently launched Season 4. The CR-56 AMAX can be unlocked at Level 31 in the current Battle Pass and guarantees a lot of fun. It holds the gold medal among rifles in one very important category no one seems to bother mentioning.

Co D AMAX Setup
You can kill an enemy with the CR-56 AMAX faster than with either the Grau 5.56 or the M4A1. (Image credit: Activision)

While its rate of fire is slower than the Grau or even the M4A1, its high damage means you can kill an opponent faster with the AMAX than with either of the top two assault rifles, or the AK-47, for that matter. We think we’ve made our case here. With this setup, the case becomes even stronger:

  • Muzzle: Monolith silencer
  • Run: XRK Zodiac S440
  • Shank: XRK Gatekeeper
  • Underrun: Command foregrip
  • Ammunition: 45-shot magazine

This setup maximizes range and reduces recoil to a point where it is relatively easy to control. This is achieved by the shaft and underrun. The monolith silencer is mandatory in most Warzone loadouts anyway, as it increases the range and hides one when shooting on the minimap. The magazine doesn’t offer the 60 shots the Grau can pull off, but thanks to the higher damage of the AMAX, it is more than sufficient.

FAL

A true outsider among assault rifles, but one that has its strengths, especially in Warzone. The FAL is hardly ever seen in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and isn’t much more popular in Warzone either. The main reason for this is that it's a semi-automatic weapon, so you can't just spray enemies down. Instead, it requires a certain playing style. To have fun with the FAL, you need to play defensively and aim well. But if you do that, you can deal incredible damage.

We recommend the following setup:

  • Muzzle: Monolith silencer
  • Barrel: XRK Shooter
  • Sight: Inclined hybrid sight
  • Underflow: Mercenary foregrip
  • Handle: Rubberized handle tape

The advantages of the silencer are obvious. The barrel increases range and speed which is always an advantage in Warzone. The under-barrel and grip provide an easier to control recoil, which is especially important when you are forced into close combat and have to fire many shots in quick succession. The visor allows more precise shots at long distances but also lets us switch to red dot. If you don't need a visor, you can alternatively take a larger magazine with you.

If you like to play more defensive but don't want to rely on a very slow firing sniper, the FAL is a very strong alternative.

725

Finally, a very crazy suggestion. The 725 shotgun is especially popular in multiplayer and was considered OP for a long time. In Warzone, however, shotguns are generally not seen very often because of the map’s size. The special thing about the 725 is that with the right attachments, it can be played at incredible ranges. But if you decide to do so, you should always pack a good long-range weapon in the secondary slot. With the 725, one logically looks for close combat. It is therefore best to stay in areas with many buildings such as downtown.

We recommend this setup:

  • Muzzle: Monolith silencer
  • Run: Tempus 32" Competition
  • Visor: Scout combat visor
  • Shaft: Crowns Equilibrium
  • Extra: Full jacket bullet

Silencer and barrel increase, as usual, the effective range and also the sight is exclusively part of the setup, because it further increases the range. The stock increases target stability, because with only two shots in the barrel every hit counts. As an extra, more damage to armor can be done with full metal jacket bullets, but alternatively, dexterity is not a bad choice for faster reloading.

Call this a crazy suggestion if you like but you just give it a try and another tune will soon be on your lips. If you don’t want to risk it too much, you can take the Grau 5.56 or M4A1 with you as a secondary, though that would be a cop-out now, wouldn’t it?

Speaking of the Grau 5.56, we suspect that it might be losing some clout in the coming weeks as weapon changes have been hinted at by Call of Duty’s developers.
