The last Home Series of this year's Call of Duty League regular season had enough in it to present us a pleasant surprise. Hosts Toronto Ultra put together a phenomenal run that ended with a fitting victory over first seeded Atlanta FaZe.

Toronto have struggled all season long and entered their home event sitting at tenth position in the CDL standings. Just like the New York Subliners before them they made full use of playing on home court and grabbed a vital win right before the playoffs.

Toronto Ultra Make Canada Proud

With the top four teams all in attendance the Ultra were a long shot to get deep into the bracket but played incredibly well and pushed through all the way to the title. Los Angeles OpTic Gaming and the Chicago Huntsmen were beaten 3-2 each. Then came Dallas Empire's turn to fall. The winners of the last Home Series could not even get to 2 on the scoreboard. Canada rose above wth a 3-1 beating.

In Group B, Atlanta FaZe marched dominantly through to the final without losing a single map - 3-0 against Minnesota ROKKR, Dallas Empire and Los Angeles OpTic Gaming.

To see Atlanta FaZe in the final is nothing special - and after this run, everyone would probably have bet their PC that they would win the final without any difficulties. However, the final was a grueling brawl and as we already saw by early results Toronto Ultra were more prepared for such an occasion. Another 3-2 confirmed the unthinkable - Atlanta has fallen, Toronto on top.

Here you can see an excerpt from the final:

Commentator Maven was also pretty sure Atlanta FaZe would win before the match, so he promised to take a maple syrup shower if Toronto Ultra won. He might be bad at predictions but he's a man of his word, which is much more valuable.

Aftermath of Toronto Ultra Home Series

Toronto Ultra receive 50 CDL points and $50,000 in prize money for the win. Atlanta FaZe get another 30 CDL points and $30,000 from the prize pool for second place. Dallas Empire and Los Angeles OpTic Gaming each receive 20 CDL points and $10,000 for places 3-4, and Chicago Huntsmen and Florida Mutineers secure 10 CDL points for places 5-6. Seattle Surge and Minnesota ROKKR go home empty-handed.

These were the last points to be split between the teams. These final calculations leave the standings in this condition:

When Do the Playoffs Start?

It's always sad when a season of anything comes to an end. The good part is that when you have a regular season, you also have playoffs afterwards. So the season is not done after all! We'll have to be patient for a while, however. The playoffs are not set to begin until August 19 and will go on until August 23. The Championship Weekend on August 29-30 will finally determine who is going to win the weird online version of Call of Duty League that was the 2020 season.

Here's what to expect when the playoffs arrive:
