We Told You So: Uro Is Banned From Standard

We Told You So Uro Is Banned From Standard
So long, friend! (Image credit: Wizards of the Coast)

It’s official - just like we warned you, today MTG issued an important change in the legality of Standard. Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath is no longer playable after the massively dominant run it had in Four-Color Omnath, and even Sultai Control - basically the two most used decks in Zendikar Rising. Not a coincidence.

Magic makers Wizards of the Coast were relatively tame in their announcement article. And who can blame them, really?

For one thing, we could see the band from a mile away - we even warned you guys on Friday. Honestly, at that rate, we should be thankful that Lotus Cobra and Omanth, Locus of Creation didn’t get the banhammer just by association!

In Wizards’ own admission, Uro just made the early game too strong and even decks built specifically to counter the four-color mayhem utilized the Titan. Besides, when a four-color build is the best deck in the game in the very first weeks of a new rotation cycle, you know you’ve got a giant problem… a titanic, even!

Luckily, the big mean green is out for good, and that means we can finally start building innovative decks again. It’s time for the new Zendikar archetypes to rise up and pick up the pace. This will happen almost immediately, as this new ban follows Wizard’s recently-implemented policy of emergency bans taking effect immediately.

So long, Uro! Now it’s time to play with other cards.
