Microsoft purchases Deathloop & GhostWire: Tokyo still exclusively on PS5

What happens to the upcoming Bethesda titles after Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media? Those responsible have now expressed their views in an interview. Deathloop and GhostWire: Tokyo will continue to appear exclusively on PS5.

The takeover of Bethesda's parent company ZeniMax Media by Microsoft is the number one topic of conversation in the gaming industry. PS5 fans who were worried about Deathloop and GhostWire: Tokyo can breathe a sigh of relief.

Deathloop & GhostWire: Tokyo continue to be released exclusively on PS5

After the takeover, which is expected to be completed in the first half of the fiscal year of 2021, Xbox Game Studios will have 23 development teams. This raises the question of what will happen to Deathloop and GhostWire: Tokyo, which is scheduled for exclusive release on PlayStation 5.This will not change after the takeover, as an interview with Bloomberg by Xbox CEO Phil Spencer shows. However, time will tell how future Bethesda titles like The Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield will fare. The interview reveals:

"Future games, like Starfield, will be available for Xbox, PC and Microsoft’s Game Pass video-game service [and] other consoles on a case-by-case basis."

Deathloop and GhostWire: Tokyo is both scheduled for release in 2021. The PS5 exclusivity period covers six months, so it is expected that both titles will also be released for Xbox Series X | S after that.

With the acquisition of ZeniMax Media, Microsoft now holds the reins of the most important Western RPG brands, namely The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Wasteland and The Outer World.
