Arena of Valor is ready to celebrate the Lunar New Year with style. This year, it’s Red Envelopes and some awesome skins for you, mobile fans!
Arena of Valor, what is that?
Arena of Valor is Chinese game developer Tencent’s MOBA title. While you PC and console users were snoozing, it’s been sweeping the mobile game market by a landslide! It’s also currently the most popular mobile esports title, surpassing PUBG Mobile by quite a lot:
And due to its Chinese roots, the mobile MOBA is getting ready to celebrate the Lunar New Year with a blast.
Red Envelopes
The festive event for the Year of the Rat revolves around the Red Envelope mechanic. Starting January 24, players will receive Red Envelopes when playing in their matches:

But don’t expect red letters hiding inside. Instead, you’ll use the Red Envelopes as currency to trade for festive Lunar skins. So far, Tencent has announced two Arena of Valor Lunar New Year special skins, though there may be more to come! The first one is the Grakk Maneki Neko:
In Chinese and Japanese cult ure, a Maneki Neko is a lucky cat that waves its paw. By waving, it invites in good fortune and prosperity. That’s why you’ll see a lot of Asian stores having one by the door!
The second Lunar New Year skin is a gorgeous Liliana rendition called Kumiho’s Legacy:
In Chinese mythology, a kumiho is a supernatural shapeshifter, often taking the form of a fox or wolf person. But don’t be fooled by its innocent appearance: the kumiho is dangerous and fierce! So whoever is sporting this skin in Arena of Valor, they mean business!
The Lunar New Year event will run in Arena of Valor until January 30, so hurry up and get your Red Envelopes! Which skin will you be going for?
