A lot of Battlefield fans have been left wondering whether 2042 will be free–to–play. Although we now know from the various pre-order editions that the base game won't be F2P, that doesn't mean other modes won't be. One mode from Battlefield 2042 – Hazard Zones – looks like a serious candidate for the free to play / Battle Pass model. Details below. Fans have been hugely excited by everything they've seen of Battlefield 2042, but they've only seen a third of the actual game so far. The multiplayer will make up the base of the game, and it's for the multiplayer that you'll be pre-ordering (if you do choose to). However, there are two other modes coming with the game: Hazard Zones and Battlehub. We don't know much at the moment about these two modes, but we hope to get more details at the EA Play Live event on July 22. Recently though, infamous Battlefield leaker Tom Henderson took to stream and revealed more about these modes, and the potential for them to be free–to–play.
Is Battlefield F2P? What We Know:
Will Battlefield 2042 Be Free–To–Play?
No, the base game will not be, but one of the modes within Battlefield 2042 called Hazard Zone will reportedly be free to play. The new Battlehub mode might be as well, but we've seen no leaks to confirm this.
What Is Hazard Zone?
According to Henderson's leak, Hazard Zone will be a free–to play mode in Battlefield 2042. It will play like a Battle Royal; with at least 100 players engaged in high–stakes, squad-based warfare. The main difference is that there will be lots of AI soldiers in Hazard Zone, in addition to the ordinary human players.
Developers are trying to avoid associating the mode with Battle Royale, however, and are claiming instead that no BR exists in Battlefield 2042. This is almost certainly for marketing purposes, after the relative failure of their last BR - Firestorm.

Can We Trust This Information?
Tom Henderson has been fairly reliable in regards to Battlefield 2042 leaks recently, only being proven wrong about the reveal trailer's date of release, so we think this looks somewhat believable. That said, news on 2042 will bring a content creator lots of attention, so it's easy to see why someone might exaggerate what they know about possible leaks. For now, we can only wait to see if these rumors are corroborated by others.
