Battlefield 2042's new multiplayer mode has been announced. It focuses on survival and looting, but EA insists it's not a Battle Royale. It's a whole new thing, apparently, and it's called 'Hazard Zone'. We'll remain above the fray, you judge for yourselves how much of a BR this sounds like.

One of the biggest questions hovering around this new Battlefield game is simple: will it have a Battle Royale? Lots of fans have grown bored of Warzone and they're looking to distant shores for a replacement. Well, the shooter community is besotted with Battlefield 2042 right now so it's natural they would ask for a Battle Royale. But unfortunately for such fans, Battlefield 2042 is going for a massive survival mode called Hazard Zone instead of Battle Royale. And we absolutely promise it's not just Battle Royale under a different name.

Update: More news, and possibly even a gameplay trailer, will reveal further details about 'Hazard Zone' at the upcoming EA Play Live event.

What Is Battlefield 2042's Hazard Zone?

Battlefield 2042's Hazard Zone is a new experience that has players teaming up into squads and launching into a new high-stakes game mode. That's about as much as they've said on Hazard Zone. As the website states:

Squad up and drop down into the Hazard Zone - an all new, high-stakes multiplayer experience. Stay tuned for more information coming later in the year.

Now, maybe we're being a little too presumptive here but that sounds exactly like a Battle Royale experience. It's even called Hazard Zone, so obviously there will be some kind of a system to restrict parts of the map with radioactive / gas mechanics. And that's not a bad thing, obviously, each franchise will want to look original but as long as we get something that simulates the excitement of a BR experience that's good news.

Fans have been suggesting it might be like Escape From Tarkov, and while that would be exciting, this is pure conjecture - the developers made no such comparison. All we can do is wait and hope for more news now, but we think the community is in a safe pair of hands with DICE. And if the Hazard Zone mode is a flop, well...

Let's hope their changes to the BR model are worthwhile.
