Battlefield 2042 just released a trailer dedicated to their character Irish. Irish is a big figure in the Battlefield lore, and now he's going to be one of the new Specialists. The Specialists have been one of the least popular parts of Battlefield 2042 so far, maybe Irish will change that. Details below.

Specialists have been very controversial in Battlefield 2042 so far. But we're not going to get bogged down in that here. Like them or loathe them, it's too late for EA to remove the system. They were hoping, probably, that people would want a bit of character. Well, at least with Irish, you're getting that. This guy was a huge part of the BF4 story, and now he's back. And he's got a special ability that they've just released a trailer about.

Irish's Specialist Trailer

Battlefield's official Twitter account just tweeted this trailer for Irish, dedicated to how he plays in-game:

On top of Exodus, which was released only a few days ago, we get even more of Michael K. Williams's character, but we're not complaining. This is probably going to be as close to a protagonist as we get in Battlefield 2042, which is forgoing a single-player campaign this year, and we couldn't have asked for a better candidate.

This trailer was followed up with another for Irish's unique skin, available as a pre-order bonus:

Battlefield 2042 are leaning into skins, but then who doesn't these days, so we aren't going to hate without due cause.

Like keeping up to speed with all things Battlefield? So do we, so here are a few recent stories in case you missed anything:

Is Irish Going To Be Any Good?

Irish has a weak ability - his deployable cover - but we don't yet know exactly how strong his 'veteran' trait will be, so the verdict is still out. If we had to make a guess at this time, we would presume that he won't be one of the competitive Specialists. At the moment, the system is already suggesting a meta to the playerbase, and that's Casper, but not with a Sniper. Instead, Casper's ability has been found to prove most strong with a shorter-range weapon.

We have to admit, we aren't fans of the Specialist system, but if we're going to have it, then trailers for each Specialist is at least a nice touch.
