Battlefield 2042's short film Exodus premiered last night. In lieu of a single-player campaign, this film presents the narrative explanation for Battlefield 2042's setting and story. And in that video, we saw an old familiar face: Michael K. Williams' character 'Irish'. Details below.Okay, before we jump straight into this, have you seen Exodus? If not then just watch it first, it's awesome:
Now, I don't know about you, but I don't mind losing a singleplayer I would've only played once. And to get a film as a replacement? Yeah, again I'm fine with that, and I think a good many fans are too. This is a franchise about multiplayer. But more importantly, you will have noticed a familiar face. The face of an iconic Battlefield character, who we are overjoyed to be reconnecting with again in the upcoming installment of this franchise.
Battlefield 2042's Irish
Irish will always have a special place in the hearts of Battlefield fans.
Captain Kimble "Irish" Graves was assigned to the Tombstone Squad alongside Clayton Pakowski, Daniel Recker, and William Dunn in the War of 2020. This was effectively the plot of Battlefield 4. But at the conclusion of that game, without spoiling too much, we were left to wonder whether Irish survived. Luckily this confirms that he (obviously) has, but it also confirms that Battlefield 2042 will be a canonical sequel to the 4th game.
In Exodus, it appears as though Irish is now the captain of the Exodus. So he's clearly been busy in the intervening years. But of course, he's no less a badass.
If that wasn't enough to get excited about, we also know that Irish will appear in-game as a playable Specialist. And who better to perform the role than Michael K. Williams? In the film, we couldn't actually see him at first and only heard that iconic voice, but it was unmistakably Michael K. Williams. If that name is unfamiliar to you, then sort your life and watch The Wire. But not before Exodus!
