Assault rifles and SMGs are always the most popular weapons in Call of Duty, but LMGs are still viable. Especially so with the slower pace of Modern Warfare 2, which rewards cautious gameplay. Of course, the fat LMGs still remain quite clunky and slow, but the firepower makes up for it if you adjust your playstyle accordingly. We took a look at all the currently available LMGs in Modern Warfare 2 and tested them with various attachment setups in the new Gunsmith. Here is our ranking for the best LMGs in Modern Warfare 2.

The Best LMGs In Modern Warfare 2

6. RAAL MG

The RAAL is a really big bruiser, and that's how it plays. It is extremely slow, has a really lousy rate of fire and reloads for half a day. Sure, the damage is awesome, but by the time you've aimed in and fired, the match is as good as over. Who knows, maybe the RAAL will be a good option in Warzone, but definitely not in multiplayer. In fact, it was one of the most painful weapons to level in the entire game.

5. Sakin MG38

The Sakin MG38 is the LMG with the highest damage, but it is also very slow. It is absolutely useless at short distances, but at long distances you can simply laser everything with it. However, you should be careful not to get caught reloading, because that takes forever. In our opinion, the Sakin will be especially popular in Warzone 2.0, but those who play a bit more cautiously can also have fun with it in multiplayer.

4. 556 Icarus

The Icarus is the LMG variant of the M4 and in our opinion the most balanced and mobile LMG in MW2. With the right attachments, it has good range and accuracy, and isn't too slow either. It is also relatively easy to control and plays a bit like a heavier assault rifle. It can't compete with the other LMGs in damage, though, so why not play an assault rifle in the first place?

3. RAPP H

The RAPP H is the LMG version of the Lachmann platform. The weapon is easy to control and has an enormously high rate of fire, which makes it extremely powerful in MW2. Normally, a high rate of fire goes hand in hand with high recoil, but that's not the case with the RAPP H. Put a few attachments on it, and you have one hell of a powerful weapon that is only compromised by its somewhat slower handling compared to the assault rifles.

2. HCR 56

This is a rather mobile LMG with a high rate of fire, and like the number 1 on this list, you can make it into a kind of heavy AR. This makes the HCR by far one of the least painful LMGs to level. It's not S-tier, and it's worse than the AUG AR by quite a bit, but it's absolutely viable, and in fact quite fun.

1. RPK

The RPK is the LMG version of the Kastov platform and a true beast. The damage is just amazing, and the reload time is also pretty fast for an LMG (especially with the 40-round magazine). The mobility is of course not comparable to an assault rifle, but if you can hit your shots, the RPK is currently the best choice in Modern Warfare 2.
