The Riveter is a fully automatic shotgun based on an AR frame and can be devastating in CQC encounters. If you want to give it a try, here is the best Riveter loadout in Modern Warfare 3.
Shotguns in MW3 are very situational. Since the TTK is much higher than in MW2, they are only effective at really short distances, but if you're really close they will still outperform SMGs and ARs. The Riveter is the only full auto shotgun we've seen in MW3 so far, which on paper makes it an incredibly strong choice. However, the range is abysmal and even at close distances you need a couple of hits for a kill.
If you want to play the Riveter, make sure you are playing on a small map and boost your mobility, so you can always get as close as possible to your enemies. For bigger maps or other play styles, you should take a look at our tier-ranking of every gun in MW3 for another option.

In our Riveter setup, we are trying to improve the range and mobility. The barrel and ammunition will significantly boost our damage range and bullet velocity, which makes fights on more than a couple of meters more forgiving. With the stock and rear grip we get more ADS-speed and mobility and the bigger magazine will let us farm a few kills before we need to reload.

Our loadout is pretty standard for a more aggressive play style: EOD Padding for more resistance against explosives, gloves for faster weapon switching, which is a great perk to have in a shotgun loadout, and the boots to let us get in close range more quickly.
In the grenade slots you are free to chose whatever you like most, but we prefer flashes and the breacher drone.
