Everything We Saw At Call of Duty: Next | Warzone 2, MW2,…

Call of Duty Next is a dedicated showcase just for CoD. This year the main focus was on Modern Warfare 2, Warzone 2, and Warzone Mobile. Here's everything we saw at this year's Call of Duty Next.

Call of Duty Next is a showcase dedicated exclusively to the CoD franchise, officially hosted by Activision. This year it took place on September 15 in LA at 09:30 PT (12:30 ET / 17:30 BST / 18:30 CEST). The devs gave us an overview of the three main products planned for release this year, and then some celebrities got to try out Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer. Anyway, enough throat-clearing, let's get to everything we learned at Call of Duty Next 2022.

CoD Next: Modern Warfare 2

Well first things first, you've got to check out this awesome trailer they showed us of Modern Warfare 2:

Okay, now let's get down to the nitty-gritty. We didn't learn much about the campaign, but we've got news for you on multiplayer and future of Spec-Ops.

MW2 Multiplayer

Here were the biggest takeaways:

The new movement mechanics we heard about a few months ago (including swimming, dolphin diving, mantling and ledge hanging) are all true.
Tactical Sprint is in the game, but you can't slide while shooting anymore.
The new vehicle mechanics that we also heard about (including maneuvers such as leaning out of windows and mantling onto vehicle rooftops) are also true.
There will be dedicated third-person playlists, just like in the OG MW2 from 2009.
We also heard about a whole new experience for the franchise, Raids, which will be coming later this year after launch. Raids will be 3v3 and focus on team communication and coordination.
Ground-War is back.
We heard about two new modes. Both are for 6v6, and they're going to be no respawn modes like SnD, but they will feature revives. One involves protecting hostages and the other involves capturing and holding an item.

MW2 Spec Ops

We didn't hear much about the specifics of Spec-Ops, but clearly they are well-aware of how poorly received the MW2019 version of Spec-Ops was... Anyway, this time they're taking it back to its routes, and it's going to be a 2-person co-op experience again.

Sadly, it doesn't look like we'll be getting a Survival mode.

We're getting seriously hyped for MW2 now, especially thanks to some of these new gameplay mechanics:

CoD Next: Warzone 2.0

Warzone 2.0 will not be set in South America, as previously suspected, instead it will take place in the Middle-East in the fictional location of "Al Mazrah". Also, to the delight of many, it won't be launched a month after release, it will be launched only two-weeks after release on November 16.

Here are some of the other details they shared about Warzone 2.0:

There's going to be a brand-new circle mechanic, which involves multiple circles appearing in end-game scenarios.
A new AI faction will populate Al Mazrah, making it a permanent PVPVE experience.
Gulag 2.0 will be 2v2, and far more complex. You'll loot for weapons and even deal with an NPC called “The Jailer”.
They also spoke about making it a more "social experience", but we don't know what means.

DMZ

They didn't tell us everything we wanted to know about this mode (but it doesn't matter because thanks to leaks, here's everything you need to know about the DMZ). But basically, this is a Tarkov-like mode that you need Modern Warfare 2 to be able to play, but you access it via the Warzone launcher, and it takes place on the Warzone map. So you'll go onto the map, do some objectives, fight a few enemies (mainly NPCs) and then extract yourself. It sounds promising, but we'll need to see more before we take our eyes off all the other new modes.

CoD Next: Warzone Mobile

Much like with MW2, we got to see a badass trailer:

You could tell it was going to be Verdansk in Warzone Mobile couldn't you? Okay, let's get to the actual details:

It's going to be free.
Warzone Mobile will have 120 player lobbies.
There's cross-progression and even a shared Battle Pass with console and PC.
Pre-registration is open now for Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile ahead ofthe anticipated worldwide release in 2023.

Wow, this might be the game that gets me into mobile gaming...
