Vanguard had a pretty decent start considering how bumpy Black Ops Cold Wars was when it came out. No major bugs, a bunch of new maps and you could actually play the game right at launch without any huge problems. Sure, there was a little bug here and there, but that's forgivable. Almost a month after the official release, however, the reports of players complaining about crashes and freezes are increasing. Although mainly PC players complain about Vanguard crashes, the issue seems to exist on consoles as well. So what do you do if you want to destroy some brats in CoD, but the game keeps crashing? We have a few tips here:

Note: There was an issue that caused crashes since the Secrets of the Pacific update, so the event had been removed from the game. The problem seems to be fixed now and Secrets of the Pacific is back in Vanguard:

How To Fix Vanguard Crashes On PC

Make Sure That Windows Is Up-To-Date

A simple trigger of the problem could be that your Windows is not up-to-date. To update Windows, follow these steps:

  • Open the settings in Windows 10
  • Click on "Update & Security"
  • Click on "Check for updates"
  • If there is a pending update, click on "Download & Install".

Make Sure Your Graphics Drivers Are Up-To-Date

With the release of big games, such as Vanguard, new graphics drivers are usually coming out as well. Make sure you have the latest driver installed. Follow these steps:

NVIDIA

  • Open GeForce Experience
  • Click on"Drivers"
  • Click on "Check for updates"
  • Install the latest driver

AMD

  • Right-Click on your Desktop
  • Choose "AMD Radeon Settings"
  • Click on the Home symbol
  • Click on "new updates"
  • Click on "Check for updates"
  • Install the latest driver update

Don't Overclock Your Graphics Card!

Yes, sometimes it can make sense to overclock your graphics card to squeeze out every last bit of performance. However, this can lead to problems with Vanguard. If you have overclocked your graphics card in the past, we advise you to undo it and see if it fixes the Vanguard crashes. If you are not very familiar with your PC, you should not overclock anything anyway.

Run Vanguard As Administrator

For some players, this simple step can also fix the crashes.

  • Rick-Click on the Vanguard shortcut
  • Go to "Properties"
  • Go to "Compatibility"
  • Choose "Run this program as Administrator"
  • Click on "Apply"

Restart Shader Compilation In Vanguard

After each major update, the game downloads the shaders again. This can sometimes cause problems, which can also cause crashes. Just restart the shader compilation and see if that solves the issue.

  • Run Vanguard and go to settings
  • Go to "Graphics"
  • Scroll down and choose "Restart Shader Compilation"
  • Wait for the installation to be done
  • Restart the game

Use The "Scan and Repair"-Feature

If all this doesn't help, you can also use the "Scan and Repair"-Feature of the Battle-net app.

  • Open the Battle.net app and go to Vanguard
  • Click the option wheel next to the play button
  • Choose "Scan and Repair"
  • Wait till the process is done

How To Fix Vanguard Crashes On PS5 & Xbox

First of all, you should make sure that you have installed all the latest updates and that the game is up-to-date. If everything fits here, you should try the following:

Power Cycle Your Console

Power Cycle on Xbox

  • Press and hold the Xbox Power Button for 10 seconds.
  • After the console is completely turned off, pull out the power cable.
  • Wait a moment and plug the cable back in.
  • Restart the Xbox.

Power Cycle On PlayStation

  • Hold down the PlayStation Power Button until you hear two beeps.
  • Unplug the console power cord.
  • Wait 10 seconds, and then plug the console back in.
  • Restart the PlayStation.

We hope that one of our tips could help you fix the crashes in Vanguard. Sledgehammer is pretty quick when it comes to fixing bugs, so if the error is on their side, you can expect a fix soon. In the meantime, if you're looking for the best weapons in Vanguard or want to build a good loadout, we can of course help.
