So you've hopped on Modern Warfare 2, and you want to use a single-fire weapon for a change. Why not? Nothing like a good workout for your trigger finger. But avoid the rubbish Battle Rifles and allow us to introduce the FTAC Recon. Here's a complete attachment setup and custom class for the FTAC, enjoy!
Modern Warfare 2 is now well underway, and we've been testing the weapons to see which of them stand out. Now, the FTAC Recon isn't quite what you'd describe as "meta", no Battle Rifles are, but it's the best weapon in the BR category, and it can be used very effectively at mid-range. We'll be the first to admit that this is a loadout for those who like to play "tactically", but if you favor aggression then we would advise you to use the FSS Hurricane, or our M4/MP5 loadout. But anyway, back to the FTAC Recon, and let's start by taking a look at the attachments you want.
MW2 FTAC Recon Attachment Setup
Attachment Slot | Attachment Name | Unlock Level |
Muzzle | Shred CP90 Compensator | M4 Level 13 → FTAC Recon Level 11 |
Barrel | 419MM EXF Barrel | M4 Level 13 → FTAC Recon Level 20 |
Optic | Cronen Mini Red Dot | M4 Level 13 → FTAC Recon Level 16 → FSS Hurricane Level 3 |
Stock | Demo Fade Pro Stock | M4 Level 19 |
Rear Grip | Sakin ZX Grip | M4 Level 8 |
With this loadout we want to do everything we can to improve damage range and recoil control, while also saving space for an optic, so we can use this puppy at range. The only attachment that might look slightly odd is the Fade Pro Stock, but this is one of the few options that can give us a benefit (movement speed) without harming our aim-down-sight time. And we never want to hurt our ADS too much, no matter what weapon we're building.
Note: This is a non-Overkill loadout, and so alongside the FTAC Recon you'll need to take a secondary weapon. This is entirely your choice, but we're enjoying the X13 blueprint you unlock at Beta level 15.

MW2 FTAC Recon Loadout: Perks & Equipment
Perks (Base, Bonus & Ultimate)
Here's our favorite perk choice for a class like this:
Base Perks | E.O.D./Battle Hardened |
Bonus Perk | Fast Hands |
Ultimate Perk | Ghost |
For this class we're choosing perks that will allow us to stay posted up at power-positions for as long as possible. So we've taken both Battle Hardened and E.O.D. to lessen the effect of the grenades getting thrown our way. We've also opted for Fast Hands because this weapon has a 10-round mag, so we might be reloading fairly often. And for the Ultimate perk we've taken Ghost, but this could be swapped out for Hardline if you prefer.
You can find a complete list of every perk in MW2 here, in case you want to see what else is on offer.
Equipment (Lethals, Tacticals & Field Upgrade)
Here are our favorite grenades and one of the best Field Upgrades:
Lethal | Proximity Mines |
Tactical | Stuns |
Field Upgrades | Portable UAV |
Don't judge us for using Proximity Mines, this whole loadout is about pre-aiming at power positions. For a Tactical grenade you could pick your favorite, we just happen to favor stuns as the easiest and most reliable.
In terms of Field Upgrades we've found the Portable UAV to be fantastically useful for obvious reasons, and it recharges very quickly. Most of the other Field Upgrades are just gimmicks.
We hope you'll enjoy the FTAC Recon, it's one of the better weapons in the game. But if you want to see which other weapons are available in Modern Warfare 2, we have a complete list of weapons here.
