As is the case with most jobs in the video game world, depending on the size of the company that you'll work at, your job description may slightly vary from what we present to you here. For the most part, what we show you will still apply to the job description, though.
Research
Depending on what type of game you're looking to create, there will be quite a bit of research involved in the process, in order to make a game as realistic or understandable.
For example, if you want to create a game based on Greek mythology and Greek gods, then you'll want to stick closely to your quote on quote source material, which will help your players to stick to the plot.

Create The Storyline And Write Character Dialogue
This aspect is what most of you will probably already have expected: video game writers obviously do a lot of writing.
For one, a very important part of the job is to create a storyline for the game, which will set the tone for the entire game. A good storyline will catch the players, and that's what a storyteller should aim for!
In order to put the cherry on top, a story based game will probably also have quite a bit of character dialogue as well, which is also written by the storyteller. This part is also definitely tricky, as it isn't so easy to give your characters unique personalities. With good character dialogue, they'll practically come to life!
Teamwork
An important part of a video game writer's job description is team work! As a writer, you have to work closely together with the game designers, artists and animators to make the game really come to life! Each member of the team has to work together in order to create the game that you all envisioned!
