Avatar 2 was always gonna be a thing, and now it's here. Here's everything we know about the highly anticipated sequel.
So, first things first: Before Avatar 2 is released, we're getting an Avatar remaster. Yeah... movie remasters are a thing now. The original Avatar will be re-released in theaters on September 23, 2022. So... there's that.
Avatar 2: The Way of Water
Now, on to the big news: Avatar 2 will go by the name of 'The Way of Water'. Because confusing Avatar the movie and Avatar The Last Airbender wasn't already easy enough.
In fact, Avatar will be getting four sequels, and each one will be a standalone story, connected by being centered around Jake and Neytiri's family. This all kicks off on December 16, 2022, when Avatar: The Way of Water is released.
As for the Avatar 2 trailer, it will debut in theaters with the upcoming Dr. Strange movie (which was banned in some countries) on May 6. Story-wise, the official description is as follows:
Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.
Of course, Zoe Saldana annd Sam Worthington will return, as will James Cameron to direct the movie. Also, on a side-note, can you believe it's been 13 years since the first Avatar? James Cameron sure loves to take his time. I don't really see how he's going to be helming all the sequels, but hey... what do I know?
