Everybody likes a good explosion every now and again, especially when they're chill in front of the telly with a nice bowl of popped corn. Here are the best action movies on Netflix...
Who doesn't like a nice, big explosion to round out the week? Who doesn't like that classic buff character with no personality who desperately, desperately wants the audience to be interested in his plight? Who doesn't like watching Liam Neeson continuously having his children stolen from him? Who, I ask you, who? Well, not that many people it seems. I mean, the film studios just pump these bad-boys out like they're McDonald's Cheeseburgers and, much like said Cheeseburgers, that's not always such a bad thing.
Netflix is the home of entertainment. I mean, let's be real, there are so many bloody Netflix movies to check out that you could legitimately spend your entire life watching Netflix and probably not get through all of it. From the many romcoms that grace our screens, to those beautiful, beautiful reality television shows, there's a bit for everyone on this streaming platform. So, if you are a beefy boy who wants [a little too desperately] to see men beating each other up, this is the article for you. May I present: EarlyGame's top five best action movies on Netflix right now!
Alrighty then, let's get started with these bad-boys. Now, I want to start with a caveat: this is my opinion on what is "best" and is, therefore, utterly correct and beyond criticism. Seriously, if you don't get agree with me, then you should not only re-evaluate your opinions but re-evaluate your entire existence. Alright, let's move on to number one...
Number 5: The Dark Knight
Let's make one thing clear: The Batman really is neck-and-neck with The Dark Knight. When we ranked all of the Batman movies back in the day, it was rather hard to decide on which one deserved first place. Despite our choice, we absolutely must put The Dark Knight on any list of best action movies. Heath Ledger's incredible performance as The Joker, and Christian Bale's continued brilliance as Batman puts this movie above and beyond anything Marvel have produced over the life of the MCU. Yes, I went there. Deal with it.
Number 4: Inception
So, yeah, Christopher Nolan really went off the rails with Tenet, that was a pretty bad movie. Inception, on the other hand, is just as good now as it was when it originally released over a decade ago. Featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Elliot Page as the two main characters, this mind-bending adventure is a spectacle still unchallenged by any modern films. From the intense and insane action, to "that" ending, there's nothing not to love here. The only thing I would say, though, is that it ain't that complicated, and it ain't that hard to understand. Sorry...
Number 3: Saving Private Ryan
Look, I know that this is a "war" movie, and it is a bit of a stretch but... look... this movie has Tom Hanks in it, so it has to be on this list. Is there anything else to my explanation other than that? Well, not really. It's Saving Private Ryan, everybody has seen this movie, it's pretty good. I mean... it's basically American propaganda but, hey, so is the entirety of the MCU, so I am not going to complain (yes, there will be a lot of bagging on the MCU in this list). Look, it's a war movie, there's action, so it's an action movie.
Number 2: Gladiator
Violence, blood, vengeance, your classic Hollywood movie. I mean what does Gladiator "not" have? If you are looking for a period-action movie, then this is the one to start with. This 90s classic was a revolution when it came out, starring Russell Crowe as a sullen, brave, and dashingly handsome man who becomes a Gladiator because... well... the Romans are complete a$$holes (and something about his family, yadda-yadda...). This movie has gruesome violence, handsome people, over-the-top s**t left and right, what more could you want? Oh, and Crowe's an Aussie so... suck-it.
Number 1: The Bourne Identity
A bit out of left field, isn't it? Well, not really, to be honest. The Bourne Identity is an absolutely incredible movie and whilst you could hardly say that good ol' Matt Damon is the best actor on the planet, he does deliver a pretty darn stellar performance here. From the deep intrigue, to the incredibly entertaining relationships and the slow reveal of Bourne's identity (Heh, get it? That's the name of the movie!), this is an entertaining thrill ride right from start to finish, delivering everything from very real emotional moments to political intrigue, mystery, and fantastic fight scenes. Oh, Bourne, what a great franchise...
