The original Castlevania series on Netflix had one of the most iconic villains in history, Vlad Tepes a.k.a. Dracula. The king of vampires is one of the most powerful entities within the franchise and troubled our main characters throughout 4 seasons without even being in the mortal realm for most of the time.

With Erzebet Bathory we will have a new villain take over in Castlevania: Nocturne. We will explain to you who the new villain of the Castlevania spin-off is and what her goals are.

Who is Erzsebet Bathory, The New Villain Of Castlevania: Nocturne?

Castlevania: Nocturne will take us all the way to France in the year 1792 during the height of the French Revolution. There we join Richter Belmond in his endeavors to fight against the terrifying Vampire Messiah who works with the counter-revolutionary aristocracy.

But who is that Vampire Messiah, and what are their plans? Well, we pretty much already told you that Erzsebet Bathory is the main villain for Castlevania Nocturne, so it should come as no surprise that she's the Vampire Messiah.

Just like Dracula, Bathory was inspired by a historical figure by the name of Countess Elizabeth Báthory de Ecsed, a wealthy noblewoman who received the fitting nickname “Blood Countess”.

The reason for this were rumors that Báthory had tortured and killed hundreds of young women, and folklore suggests that she bathed in their blood to retain her youth. Do we really need to explain any further why she's a more than worthy successor to Dracula?

Erzsebet Bathory also has a rich lore within the Castlevania games, where she also appeared as the final boss in 1994's Castlevania: Bloodlines. In the game, Bathory (actually she's called Bartley in that game), set off WWI by murdering the Crown Prince of Austria, because of her plans to bring back her uncle Dracula.

So yeah, both the setting and the plot for our new main villain differ greatly between the game and the new Netflix show. But honestly, I think it changed for the better.

In Castlevania: Nocturne, Erzsebet Bathory plans to rule the world by blacking out the sun, unleashing an army of vampires and nightcreatures to conquer her new world of darkness.
