Castlevania: Nocturne is taking a big leap through time, but how exactly does it fit into the Castlevania timeline?
Netflix's new animated series Castlevania: Nocturne just released and if you watched the original series you might be wondering how much time has passed since we followed Trevor Belmont, Sylpha and Alucard on their journey. Here's the Castlevania: Nocturne timeline explained.
Castlevania: Nocturne will continue the fight of the Belmont family against Dracula and his offspring. This time, though, the story is taking place at a different location and in a different time.
The Castlevania: Nocturne Timeline Explained | How Much Time Has Passed?
The original Netflix series is loosely based on Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, which was set in 1476. While we follow different characters throughout the show that travel to different places, Trevor and Friends mostly stay in Wallachia, a former region of southern Romania.
Castlevania: Nocturne on the other hand takes place more than 300 years after the events of the original series and changes the dreary setting of 1400s Walachia for the even more depressing setting of 1700s France.
The Netflix description of the show reads as follows:
France, 1792 - the height of the French Revolution. In a remote part of western France, the counter-revolutionary aristocracy has forged an alliance with a terrifying Vampire Messiah, who promises to ‘eat the sun’ and unleash an army of vampires and nightcreatures to crush the revolution and enslave humanity. Annette, a sorceress from the Caribbean, seeks out Richter Belmont, last descendant of the long-fabled family of vampire hunters, to lead the resistance
And thanks to that synopsis we can safely assume that neither Trevor nor his immediate successors managed to wipe out vampires for good, since they've managed to infiltrate the high society of 18th Century France.
So, there you have it, one hell of a time jump between the original Netflix series and the new show, and we're not quite sure what happened during those 300 years. But hey, maybe Netflix will fill the gap with some more Castlevania spin-offs.
