Chris Pratt will be playing Super Mario in the upcoming film, but it doesn't look like he'll be doing an Italian accent.
Chris Pratt will not be using the character's iconic Italian accent, according the new Mario film's co-producer. Now, that sounds a little odd! After all, the man's supposed to be an Italian plumber who lives in a weird Japanese-animated world, and looks like a Mexican stereotype! Come on guys, pay attention to the source material!
Now, look, there's a lot that could be done with a Mario Movie, and we do enjoy the idea of Pratt coming along and possibly taking away the sting of that horrendous Mario film that came out in the 1990s. Let's all be real: pretty much anything would be better than that movie, even if this movie as absolute dog poop!
This new Mario movie does, at least, have series' creator and video game legend Shigeru Miyamoto as a producer. How fantastic is this? Pretty blood fantastic if you ask me. However, the Producer whom mentioned Chris Pratt's Italian accent was not Miyamoto, it was good ol' Chris Meledandri, who said the following...
So you'll see we definitely nod to [the Italian/Mario accent] – but that's not the tenor of the performance throughout the film... as an Italian American myself, I understand. You know, I understand the comments. Charlie Day, who's playing Luigi, actually comes from Italian heritage... So that's our nod.
Meledandri is the CEO of Illumination, the studio behind films like Despicable Me, and its various spinoff films. Considering the animation style of Despicable Me, this certainly seems like the perfect choice of both production studio and producers. Are you hyped yet?

When is the Mario Movie Release Date?
The new Super Mario movie is set to release on December 21, 2022. It was announced in 2018, and is one of the most highly anticipated films of next year. That being said, it's also a film that strikes fear into the hearts of all gamers. Video Game films are very rarely good, but let's also be real: there's reason for hope, that's one dope cast!
